Lencois Maranhenses National Park

Reviewed By Adriano F

For those who want an incredible experience, I super recommend visitation. The place has amazing views, especially if you are a photographer. You can gleam the sand dunes floating on the ground and feel the winds moving it. You can walk through the 'sand blankets' that's how we name the dunes here at Maranhão, a Brazilian state. And a literal translation to name the place. Blankets of Maranhão... LOL... So, enjoy it a lot!

Lagoa das Andorinhas

Reviewed By kunfoto - Vancouver, Canada

It is such a beautiful lake with clear water and white sand dunes around it. it is better to come here in the afternoon and wait for sunset. You can take amazing pictures with nobody around you. if you want to experience the landscape of Lecois with less tourists Santo Amaro is definitely better choice than Barri but it is difficult to get to. You need to take a two hour ride on a extremely bumpy sand road from the highway if you come from Sao Louis or Barri. Once you see the scenery you won't regret the effort.

Chapada das Mesas

The name comes from its plateaus, that resembles the shape of stone tables (in Portuguese Mesas means tables, hence the name), mainly concentrated in the cities of Carolina and Riachão. Its plateaus are due to the fragile sandstone walls formed millions of years ago, which were eroded by the action of winds and rains. This ecological sanctuary brings countless natural spectacles, unique examples of the Brazilian biomes. Undoubtedly, Waterfalls and their natural swimming pools of crystalline water, with mild temperatures around 22° C (72° F) in the midst of the immense rocky walls, are mainly responsible for the charm that surrounds Chapada das Mesas. Twisted trees and multicolored sandstone cliffs hide a paradise that can be outlined in numbers: there are 89 Waterfalls and over 400 crystalline water Springs inside the Chapada das Mesas National Park - PARNA -, a conservation unit that resides inside the Chapada das Mesas, in one of the country’s most fascinating regions.

Teatro Arthur Azevedo

Reviewed By AlexandreBorges - Brazil

It is said to be the second eldest in Brazil, opened in 1817. It's a nice looking theater on the inside, but it could be taken care of way better. It receives monthly a good comedy or play, but it is up to a schedule to be verified at your hotel.
Take care with streets surrounding the Theater for petty theft.

That title sums up pretty much everything! they have a generator in the four B&B on this beach, which are turned off at 10 in the evening! we rented a quadricycle as soon as we arrived and rode for one hour by the sea...deserted beach, eccentric landscape. In the afternoon, we took a boat up the river to see the sunset and guaras flying over our heads on the way to sleep, came back and had dinner at the B&B. A very pleasant evening....like in the old days, chatting.
