The archipelago consists of two Islands, the main Island Helgoland and smaller Düne (the Dune). The populated Helgoland is the place where you can observe seabirds. The earless seals lounge around on sandy Beaches of Düne. The small ferryboat cruises between the two Islands every half an hour. Accommodation possibilities are limited on the Düne. There are a few bungalows and a small campsite on the small island but zou can use many guest houses and small hotels on the Helgoland. The Islands are accesible either by ships from ports on the north-west german coast or by a small plane (an airstrip on the Düne).

There are many efforts to hold the sea back and besides a local guide there are also written explanations showing how the shoreline and muddy cliff have altered over the years. That is the real story here as this lighthouse is the northern most point in Germany close to Denmark. There are shops around the car park area which is ticketed but conservation and marine biology is the true focus in this area.

After 25 years away and 47 years since I last saw a schoolfriend we met again, met each others families and the two of us caught up walking the pier, the beach and through the water. It was so good to be at the North Sea. The entire area is super clean and safe. The restaurant onsite : vegetarian dish was quite good.

Karl May Spiele Bad Segeberg

Reviewed By Onyx007 - Zurich, Switzerland

Perfect thing for a family with kids or someone who likes to remember their youth.
It's a openair theater which plays the "Karl May"-Stories of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand.
I really enjoyed it and it was a beautiful summer day.
It was on a sunday and there were plenty of seats left to choose from, so no booking in advance necessary.
Just prepare on hot days with enough sun protection and liquids because there is no shade.
If you arrive by public transport then take your time, because the theater has no connections with the timetable of the train; you have to count that your arrival in Bad Segeberg will be one hour before it begins and the departure is one hour after it ends. The walk from the railway station is about 15 minutes, but there is a great catering at the place to choose from.
Also the theater is not that well if you are disabled.

This store is divided into two. One is all about chocolates - all different types of flavors and forms. They have some already packed but you mostly walk around with a bag and fill it with your favorites. Price depends on weight. The other store is mostly candy and licorice. They have very many different options to choose from. Hard candy, soft candy, hard licorice, soft licorice, mild and strong licorice. If you're in luck, you'll be able to see how they make some of their candy. Their truffles are superb! If you're in the area, you must visit this quaint little candy and chocolate "factory".

Visited the old town on a day trip from Hamburg (about 40 minutes on the train). Highly recommended ... really beautiful Hanseatic town with added poignancy given much of it has been painstakingly restores after WWII. Amazing Dutch gabled buildings and sympathetic modern additions. Great shopping and lovely to wander through.

This place offers great view over the island and to the sea. Here you see the quintessence of Sylt: sands and sea from one side and calm landscapes with dunes and cliffs from another. If you have time only for one sight - this must be this place!

This is what Bristol surely was used to look like. A vast port with many sailing vessels, old dockbuildings and traditional taverns. The few modern buildings are either of the old age of trade, or cleverly designed. Worth a visit!

Located right next to the only Type VII U-Boat left in the world, the German Naval Memorial is an outstanding tribute to all the German sailors that have died in wars. The place is very Teutonic and that’s what you expect from a German memorial. The tower provides a great view, but more importantly, honors the sailors. The memorial room is solemn and again, a good memorial. The model/history room is interesting. Glad we saw this memorial.

The church is in a beautiful area.It is quite unusual the way it is with its bricks clock tower while the rest is white.Inside wood mezzanine for the choir and beautiful organ.
We also liked the cemetery that is around the church with edges that separate the tombs, quite unusual.
