This is a nice contrast to the city and located close enough to get to for a late afternoon ride in the Sunshine (if you're lucky).
The overall quality of street furniture is not high but the space and trees and wide path round the lake are all good.

Old Orhei Archeological Complex

There are buses from the central bus terminal that is well hidden in the main market. Once you find buses, it took a few minutes to locate the right bus. I wrote the destination on a piece of paper and asked people where to find the bus.
First local experience getting on maxi bus from Chișinău to Butuceni to visit Orhei Vechi Monastery. It took approx 01:30hr to get there and 26 lei. You pay at the end to the driver. Buses don't run frequently. We got the bus at around 10:30 in Chișinău and took the return bus at 16:15 from Butuceni. Be warned. If you don't get a seat, be ready to get squashed by incoming people. Even when 1 person gets off, 4 people will come in and squash you further. There seems to be no limitation on the number of passengers.
Once we got to the destination, we had 4 to 5 hours to spend there so we walked around, as it was a lovely sunny Autumn day. Found a supermarket and drunk wine in the field, went to monasteries. Like may orthodox monasteries, they were pretty, full of colourful pictures. If the cave is open, go there.

Worth of an afternoon. I gues you should have a guide, like most recommend. What is to find on spot are only signs in Romanian.
Views on the complex are really nice, views from it also. Come with flat, comfortable shoes.
There is suppose to be cave part of the monastery, but when we were there it seemed to be closed for visitors. If you want to explore some caves anyway, drive to the village of Trebujeni. At the beginning of the village look left, park your car and go explore.
also, if you feel like walking 800m ti Villa Etnica to eat something, make sure, that it is not Monday or Tuesday, because it is closed then and you are left with a walk back to the car, hungry.

Built in the 1500s, this is a perfect example of turkish medieval style architecture. You'll need to travel to Transnistia to see this, as Bendery is in Transnistria. You don't need a guide, but its beneficial as there is not much information available on site. There is a small museum with medieval torture devices, and a small museum with displays of items found in the grounds around and in the fortress, as well as a miniature version of the fortress. I'd say this is a mush if you choose to visit Transnistria.

Soroca Fortress

Reviewed By kurogomajpn - Singapore, Singapore

Soroca Fortress is a well-restored and well-maintained fortress in the city of Soroca, northeast Moldova. It is situated by the Dniestr river and was initially built of wood, later rebuilt with stone. the fortress is not big, but it is still a very attractive architecture, with lovely views of the landscape as well as the city of Soroca. If you get to speak to the main guide here (he is almost always in one of the rooms on the ground level and is an expert on this fortress) you will also get a fascinating history lesson pertaining to the fortress well worth your visit.

The restaurant located inside the winery fields is astonishingly big, hosting different rooms and decors.
You can savour the Moldavian rural traditions and have a taste of its most represantative dishes.
The staff friendliness is outstanding and the simplicity of the places offer the right balance of charm and relax.
The wines produced here are also their pride and indeed they are outstanding. Try their outstanding Feteasca Neagra. You will not be disappointed.
A visit to their production line is also recommended. It is really enriching.

Don't miss to stop in this winery, friendly welcome , great peacefull area surrounded by grapes. Excellent food, hole prepared and perfect wine ( rose of the year is just excellent). The winery is small, totally modern inox equiped, so nothing special to visit except the pleasure to test different wine directly poored from the tanks. I strongly recommend ( even possible to land if you go by plane ;)))).

I was there few times. The last time I went with two friends from Ireland and Alaska. It is about a week ago, middle of spring, gorgeous colours, lovely place, lovely atmosphere. You can just inside the monastery or even outside and enjoy the stillness, the beauty, the sounds and colours. Mesmerising and magic place. A place with an excellent aura and I would take any visitors there back again.

Took the underground tour with some friends. Fountains were nice to look at. Lady was very knowledgeable but wish more things were local. Grapes are grown here or locally. One can survive an earthquake, nuclear war, or even an apocalypse It is considered the largest underground winery in the world.
I had the wines which tasted pretty good but it is somewhat "manufactured" (similar to California wines).
Lunch was really good as well. I had some Appetizer – cheese, meat
Soup – Zameh-chicken, homemade noodle, leusteam
Meal-mamiliga (cheeseball); tocana (meat); sheep cottage cheese
Cake
All in all, I had a good time but I would probably not come back BUT if you have never visited Moldova, I would recommend this place.
