Casa El Enemigo

Reviewed By Gwyther B - Brooklyn, New York

My Wife and I visited on our honeymoon and loved the time we spent here. We initially visited on a wine tour (for tasting only-which BTW is totally worth it) and after seeing/smelling the kitchen we decided we had to return for lunch. Service, ambience and food were all top notch; we had the beef ribs and the pork- both were delish. The wine was the best we tasted while in Mendoza; our server (Eugenia) did a great job explaining every aspect of each wine. The wine maker/owner was around too and checked in few times to make sure we had everything we needed. A specIal shout out for the honeymoon bubbly and desert they hooked up; Can't wait to return!!

We read the reviews of wineries before coming to Mendoza. Tierras Altos was the only one I booked, after Reading many reviews. It was definitely the right decision.
Daniel & Freddy, met us upon arrival, with a wonderful rose. Then discussed their family’s wine making and educational philosophy.
We have been to Napa/Sonoma, along with other wineries in the USA, however we have never learned more of not only the wine making and tasting process. We left feeling we could become sommelier’s - it was that informative!! And oh by the way it was very easy & enjoyable all while tasting the best wine we have had in Mendoza!
I can not say enough about how hospitable & helpful both Freddy & Daniel were! There kitchen was closed so they took us to a competitor that had a incredible lunch with tasting.
This place is a MUST TRY!!!!!

Our tour group was met by a very pleasant young lady, who was fluent in several languages. We toured pretty much the whole facility, and of course sampled some wonderful wines. The visitor section of the winery is underground in some of the old concrete tanks that the wine was first placed into. The grounds are quite lovely. It was a pleasant visit.

Brigitte and Philippe Subra came from France in 1998 to live in Mendoza. Philippe managed a company in the electric business of Mendoza for more than 4 years. They created CarinaE Viñedos y Bodega (CarinaE SA) in January of 2003. The company dedicates itself to produce high quality wines, with grapes that are produced in its own vineyards of low yields located in the traditional first zone of Mendoza. The wines are made in the winery they rebuilt at their property in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú.CarinaE has near 20ha of productive vineyards that are spread around its property at Tres Esquinas, Cruz de Piedra, Maipú (8 ha of 85 years vineyard of Malbec, 0,5 ha of Syrah, and 2 ha of Sabernet-Sauvignon), and on the famous Calle Cobos in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo (3ha and 4,5ha of 90 years old vineyards of Malbec). Near the Cruz de Piedra property, a little vineyard of 2ha was newly planted with syrah and malbec, and begun to produce syrah in 2011.This “Boutique” winery has a vat capacity of 260,000 liters. It has renewed concrete vats coated with epoxy paint and a cellar with 200 French barrels. CarinaE has the necessary technology to produce high-quality wines.

A tasting of 5 wines and a free, very tasty empanada were only 50 pesos with a coupon from Mr Hugo's bike rental. As others have mentioned, Christian, the proprietor is very warm, welcoming and gave great descriptions of the wines (in english) as he poured them. It started raining (a rare event here) as we were about to leave. He insisted we take our seats again to wait it out, and gave us a free glass of wine to boot! We were grateful for his generosity.

Domiciano

As part of our tour, Domiciano was the first of three wineries we visited. Our guide, Loos (not sure of the spelling), spoke very good English, was very friendly and provided an excellent overview of the wine making process. As a boutique winery, Domiciano was a very good choice. We also bought wines from there - but only one bottle made it back to Australia without being drunk!
