We visited Lofoten, Svolvær in first week of Mar 2017 and it looked ravishingly beautiful in its snow clad blankets... With the sun striking gently on them it looked like calendar pictures or windows wallpapers or Disney animations.. I never thought they were real but...MoreThank you for your feedback :) "Hunting the Northern Light" is an interesting job to have. Sometimes we are lucky too! Lofoten have a great advantage because of the high Mountains and the not so large Islands. Looking forward to seeing you again :)

On the site of the medieval town of Vågar (now called Storvågan / SKREI Experience Center) you'll find the stately 1815 main building, authentic fishermen's cabins, and boathouses featuring Nordland boats. The museum also offers picture-games and Exhibitions on the Lofoten fisheries, ports and coastal Lighthouses, traditional crafts and a beautiful garden with historic perennials.

At the aquarium you can learn about the Lofoten cod - or Skrei: Skrei is the name of the east Atlantic cod that migrate from the Barents Sea to Lofoten every winter to spawn. Check out the skrei aquarium room when visiting us. Within our tanks, you can also study most other species of fish, crustaceans and marine animals found in the waters around Lofoten. One of the highlights of your visit will be feeding the seals and otters, who live in outdoor pools near the Aquarium entrance. The Lofoten Aquarium additionally features photo- and art-exhibitions and films, a souvenir shop, and a cafe where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and excellent views.

The Lofoten Aquarium is part of the Skrei (COD) Experience, a three venue location also including a history and art museum. I highly recommend buying the ticket that gets you into all three. They are all great. Overall, this aquarium was really well done. Everything there had English signage. Much better than the history museum. There is an outdoor exhibit with seals and otters and I hugely recommend seeing either the 12pm or 4pm feeding time for them or else you won't see the otters. I read earlier reviews that at feeding time there was nothing in English, be we saw the 4pm feeding and there was some English speaking fish exhibits weren't huge, but mostly it seemed like the fish were in the right size Aquariums for the types of fish and that the fish all looked in good health. Only the brown trout looked a little unwell, but I have experience working in zoological settings and sometimes animals feel sick when you manage large numbers of animals. Definitely go outside and check out the salmon aquaculture information and go upstairs to the fishing and oil exhibit. Very interesting. All in all, it is completely worth your time to do a visit to this aquarium and the two museums if you are in the Lofoten area and interested in learning about the culture and history of the area.

This church is also known as Lofoten Cathedral. We stopped there on our way through Lofoten Islands and wanted to take a look inside. However I found the entrance price way too high (more than 30 NOK if I remember well) so we decided only to admire it from the outside. Nice structure from late 19th century. Cannot comment on the interior but other reviews suggest it's not special.

This is a great spot for spending time with family, and there's some nice camping spots nearby. During tourist season it can be a bit crowded, but it's usually not a problem. The water is rather chilly but the location is lovely. Nice spot for barbecue.

Galleri lille Kabelvåg located by the square in the historic fishing village Kabelvåg have more than 600m2 of exhibition space. Part of the gallery is an art and object-collection and work of the artists Inger Anne Nyaas and Thor Erdahl who are the founders of the gallery. Additionally is there a broad program through the year of shifting Exhibitions, Concerts and lectures.

Interessant og morsomt sted å besøke!
Stadig nye utstillinger med dyktige kunstnere, ofte med tilknytning til landsdelen. I tillegg fine presentasjoner av arbeidene til Thor Erdahl og Inger Anne Nyaas, de som eier og driver dette galleriet.
Rosinen i pølsa er likevel Galleri Motbakke, en fantastisk presentasjon av eiernes private kunstsamling, samt istallasjoner, museumsgjenstander og raritetssamlinger.
Et sted å være, lenge!

En veldig hyggelig kunsthåndverks butikk med mange spennende kunsthåndverk laget av gjenbrukt materiale. En butikk det virkelig er verdt å besøke. Her finnes gaver til deg selv og gaver det gir menig å gi bort. Så mange ting som også passer som bedriftsgsver. Gjenbruk og ypperlig kunsthåndverk gir mening

Completely unreliable tour provider. We had pre-booked a climb more than 2 weeks prior arriving at Lofoten, and reconfirmed 2 days prior the trip via SMS. None of this was requested by Northern Alpine guides, we only did do so to ensure we can take the climb. However, the office provided us with an incorrect meeting point. While we waited at the office the guide took of without checking or calling us. 15 minutes after the planned starting time the guide could not be reached any more, thus we could not catch up. An alternative trip in the evening was not offered and it was also not possible to start the trip the next morning an hour or two earlier to allow us to reach our flight. We had to miss out on a climb we were very much looking forward to as Norther Alpine Guides is unable to provide clients with a correct meeting point and unwilling to make any effort to correct a mistake at their end. They basically ruined our day.
