The Transnet Transport Museum has a unique display featuring the history of Transnet. Enter the world of South African Railway history and admire some of the Iron Ladies that once ruled the railway lines of South Africa. From the small prestigious Emil Kessler(National Monument) to some of the more modern bigger veterans that concurred the scenic Outeniqua railway pass. An excellent selection of privately owned vintage cars are on display and other Exhibitions of interst are silverware, cutlery and crockery from various periods of the transport industry, locomotives number plates, makers plates, fire engines, road transport vehicles, furniture and many other rail related items. Open weekdays from 08:00 AM to 4;30 PM . Saturdays and Public Holidays from 08:00 to 14:00. Closed on Sundays and 25 December. ENJOY A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE.

We visited the transport museum during peak season holidays in South Africa. The venue is easily accessible with good directions and signs. Safe and adequate parking close to the museum. Friendly staff. Entry fee of R20 per adult (R10 for kids older than 6) is extremely good value for money considering the size and quality of the exhibition. Growing up in SA in a railway family (my grand father retired as a station master) it was a beautiful trip down memory lane. On display they have an extensive collection of trains with a detailed history of each train. Largest model train (in the Southern Hemisphere) on display is beautiful to watch in motion. Beautiful cars, local maritime and aviation history also on display. Looking at the old photos and pristine conditions of stations and equipment ack then one experiences a bit of pride of how distinguished the South African railway network and system used to be, but at the same time sadness to see how derelict and run down this once world class infrastructure has become.

Parking can be a problem so get there early
Lovely bay with a small beach and lots of rock pools, can get very crowded especially at weekends and parking is limited so worth getting there early. Limited coffee shops but if you walk to the end there is a quaint one worth a visit although when we were there it was closed.

We enjoyed visiting The Redberry Farm. Which is set in the delightful countryside outside of George. They have lots of special things for children to enjoy. Train ride for children and grown ups, picking a basket of strawberries. We enjoyed the strawberry shakkr and the freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and cream were excellent. Great

Lovely place to visit, taste & buy the wines together with tasty food. Owner very friendly and knowledgeable. Those of a nervous disposition (or lacking a 4x4) better off taking the Outeniqua pass rather than the Montague pass.Thank you for the review. The Montagu Pass built tn 1844 is some times a bit more difficult to drive than the Outeniqua Pass, especially after some nice rain. But it is very scenic !! We are glad you enjoyed the experience.

Had a beer tasting and ordered burgers for myself and wife, burgers were fantastic! Waiter was friendly, enjoyed the blonde ale the most. There's good options for beer glass sizes.

Would rather go to any botanical garden in or near Cape Town or Overberg. Over the past 20 odd years I can see an improvement concerning the buildings etc
and also notice entry fee charge. But not really worth the visit. For international tourist, rather see botanical Gardens in other regions and stop in George for another attraction such as locomotive museum etc.

The churches history spans back to 1832 when the foundation was first laid, due to money problems the church was only inaugurated in 1842. The stinkwood pulpit and yellow wood ceilings craftsmanship is truly spectacular, the detail is absolutely fantastic. Not only for the religious but for all lovers of history or architect to view. The church is open from about 9am - 3pm on weekdays. The huge bell rings every 15 minutes and then every hour on the hour and can be heard for many kilometres. We loved seeing the church, appreciated everything from the teak doors that were carried by ox-wagen from Cape Town to the steeple that collapsed in September 1905 and had to be rebuilt.

What a delightful gem! We often visit on a Saturday morning for pancake and proper farm style coffee. They serve it with condensed milk for those with a sweet tooth. The stories about the toll house and the area always delight. Well worth a visit. They also host special occasions like weddings, christenings, stork parties and more.

As with many other museums the displays are not interactive enough and the kids get bored easily. Huge potential here, but you just get the idea that there is not enough money or the willingness to grow with the times. Worth a visit though.
