10 Things to Do in Durbuy That You Shouldn't Miss

December 1, 2017 Hana Mouser

The “smallest town” on earth, Durbuy, is just 2 hours from Brussels. With a population of 500, Durbury has maintained its charming medieval setting, another Belgium village to relax and enjoy the beauty of history. The city’s first castle was built around 889, awarded “city” status in 1331. Today its pedestrian streets are narrow, flowered and cobbled, winding between the old bluestone homes and buildings, attracting tourists to its shops, fine restaurants and hotels. In December, the streets are alive with Christmas markets. Adventurists can also kayak or raft the Ourthe River that passes through the city. Must-see Durbuy attractions include the Topiary Park, The Belvedere, The Confiturerie Saint-Amour, and with a last thirst-quenching stop at the Marckloff Brewery.

Plenty of parking lots to choose from, even a shuttle bus from one of them to take you right into town. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the Topiary Garden which was beautiful, followed by a wander through the lovely cobbled streets with beautiful shops and delightful restaurants. You can do a self guided walking tour through the town. Perfect for a day trip, longer if you want to take advantage of the many local outdoor activities.

Tortuga Bar

During our weekend in Durbuy, we made a point of visiting this great place. The bar is decorated like a real pirate ship, floor-to-ceiling! Take your time to take it all in: the better you look, the more you see! The staff is extraordinarily friendly and the music immediately sets the mood for a chat and a drink. I was not blown away by the rum, as it was mostly basic rum with very sweet syrups added to it. Not a place for rum-lovers, but the perfect place to relax after a long day.
We were a rather large group and the bar is pretty small, so we had to split up to sit down, so be prepared if you want to come here with your whole squad ;-)

We'll definitely come back!

Radhadesh, in a wonderful location is well worth a visit. The guided tour was excellent and informative giving a real insight into Hare Krishna. The castle has been wonderfully restored with a small bakery and quite large shop with everything Indian. We returned in the evening and enjoyed a delicious vegetarian thali in the restaurant.

This is not to be missed for children and adults alike. Finding your way through acres of corn stalks high as a man is really entertaining. There are quizzes to help you find your way (English included) + little shows featuring live Peter Pan characters for the children.
Be ready to spend at minimum 2 hours in the maze. There is a snack bar at the center, but you can bring your own food and drink. Comfortable shoes are recommended. No heels or you'll sink into the wood chips covering the ground. Outside the maze area, there are smaller mazes, one made of doors that you need to push. An additional educational area features a small maze of wild flowers.

We had an absolutely brilliant afternoon in Adventure Valley and every single one of our party had great fun from first moment to last.
The Acrobranche Obstacle course of high wires through the trees was excellent and there was a course of appropriate difficulty for everyone from easy to downright challenging! The instructors were really good and very helpful to the inevitable few that got stuck! It is very safe so long as you follow the procedures you are taught and once you get the hang of it it is really enjoyable.
The ziplining was also really popular with our group and the kids and adults alike really got a lot out of it. Its really relaxing actually as you zip through the forest.
The playground was a huge hit with the kids, lots of high slides, swings, a bouncy castle style jump and a massive rope/netted path. Our lot had such a good time there too, not just in the forest.
The cafe is excellent too with really nice food and massive helpings. It has a full bar to relax in afterwards and a nice terraced area to sit on if the weather allows.
A truly fantastic day out for kids and adults like, its great to see them active and out in the fresh air.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough, they really added to our day. A wonderful place to visit and we'd highly recommend it.

The monuments itself are in what you can expect from some neolithic "stone collections".
There is zero explanation at the various sites.
Consider it a nice short walk while having the opportunity to have a look at these "old stones".
The museum is not free but cost is small but then again the museum is also small.

The quality of the course is still great and the first 9 were fantastic as it was really hot and the trees' shadows helped a lot!
The green fee is ok and the buggy is only 15€...
Nature and landscapes are outstanding and it is perfect to relax and challenge your skills!
