Estadio Presidente Juan Domingo Peron

I attended two games in BA. The Racing Club game was a good experience, but if you have a chance definitely go to San Lorenzo at Estadio Pedro Bidegain. This Peron stadium is aged and quite dirty. Lots of food vendors available. Police in riot gear were a worry, but scores of families with children under 10 years indicated there is no real security concern among the locals. I paid 400 pesos for upper level, bus 98 from BA goes right to the stadium, you can't see it from the bus but it is the second stop after crossing the river.

Teatro Colon

The Teatro Colon, in the City of Buenos Aires, is considered one of the best Theaters in the world. Acknowledged for its acoustics and the artistic value of its construction, it turned 100 years in 2008.

I simply walked to the ticket desk and waited 15 min. for a tour on Spanish. Our guide was excellent and group asked good questions. Everything about this place is stunning. Attended an opera, Tres Hermanas, before leaving. Again, I just stopped in to purchase my ticket. No visit to BsAs is complete without seeing this gem. Stopped for tea at Petit Colon afterward. Nice but expensive.

Recoleta

This fashionable, upscale neighborhood is lined with cafes, boutiques and galleries and morphs into a street fair on weekends.

We have visited and stayed in Recoleta area on a prior holiday. It is a nice area with many good shops and restaurants. This time in Buenos Aires we are on extended holiday. We chose to stay in Palermo Soho area which feels a bit more “suburban” which we like for the longer time. But for a more usually trip to BA I could highly recommend Recoleta.

Puerto Madero

By day, this riverfront area is a booming business and shopping district and by night, a hip neighborhood with pricey restaurants and fashionable clubs.

Reviewed By KodoDrummer - Yekaterinburg, Russia

Over the past 25 years, this former port and major loading/unloading dock have changed into one of Buenos Aires most desirable areas to live in, dine at, and out for leisurely walks in this sightseeing haven. Due to the depth of the water, size of the canal, and increased size of cargo ships, Puerto Madero lost its importance relevance as a port when a new port opened in 1911.
Puerto Madero continues to grow in population, high-end hotels, the best tango show in Buenos Aires (US$260 per person), condos, state-of-the-art multiplex cinemas, theatres, the offices and corporate buildings of many businesses, and awesome dining establishments. And further development is taking place, as is evident from the number of construction cranes in use. Many restaurants in the area charge and get premium prices for their cuisine offerings.
There are ever increasing places and statues for photo ops. These include the Puente de la Mujer (pedestrian bridge over the canal), which offers great photo shots during the day, at sunset, and in the night when it is lite up; the bronze Mercedes race car and driver (Monument in tribute to Juan Manuel Fangio); the statue, Escultura de Paez Vilaro (aka, the whimsical statue), about 200 metres behind the Hilton BA and close to the canal and pedestrian bridge; ships docked along the canal; the “Pasionaria” sculpture (which looks very artsy to me); two comic-like guys on a scooter statue (This and the pedestrian bridge are my two favourites for photo taking); statues and signs of some of the steakhouses; and many more.
This barrio has two bodies of water. One is alongside the row of former shipping warehouses and horse stables, and the other being Rio de la Plata which often looks more like a still water swamp. Alongside both bodies of water, during the day and evening, many people take a stroll, go jogging, or take a romantic walk.
The body of water alongside the old warehouses is the home to two ship-museums, the Sarmiento and Uruguay, which are both open for sightseers.
Puerto Madero contains an 864-acre ecological reserve where you can often see birdwatchers with their cameras . . . Waiting for some lucky shots.
In prior years, Puerto Madero was a well-patrolled area, and thus one of the safest areas of Buenos Aires. Today, the crime rate has probably lowered significantly, as I see few officers patrolling the area.

Racing Club

We attended the local derby - Racing Club vs Boca Juniors. The game had everything. Goals, sending offs, controversies, etc but what made it for us (Irish visitors) was the unbelievable and unparalleled fanaticism and passion of the Racing fans (no Boca fans allowed at the game). The stadium bounced throughout the game. An unforgettable and worthwhile experience. We went on a tour with 5 others - arranged by our hotel. While expensive we would recommend this option as the area is very poor and run down and things are quite confusing due to the security measures to prevent violence (you will be frisked and any missiles removed (water bottles for example). The matches also tend to be very late at night - ours ended at 11pm).

Architectural landmarks in the city’s oldest neighborhood have been restored, and this revitalized area is distinctly artistic, with cafes, antique shops, cobblestone streets and lots of artists and dancers.

To me San Telmo means two names : La Brigada , one of the best best Parrillas in Buenos Aires , especially the old room with its " camisetas " of Soccer teams all over the walls ( the place is still a favorite among soccer platers ), and a serious meat eater place. The best mollejas ( sweetbreads ) in all of Buenos Aires . And La Ventana, for me the best tango show in town. Not been there recently but the show used to give me chills.
