10 Specialty lodgings in Berlin: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 25, 2023 Deane Carmody

Home to some of the most significant historical sites of the 20th century, Berlin is a bustling international destination. A large city, many of Berlin's neighborhoods were in fact once independent towns. They were cobbled together to form the "Great Berlin" in 1920, and their town centers still reveal elements of this era. Today, nothing is more important to a Berliner than his or her "Kiez" (neighborhood) and the "Kiezleben" (life in the neighborhood). From the loud, wild, artsy, and young streets of Neukolln to the family-friendly avenues of Prenzlauer Berg to the quiet and sophisticated corners of Charlottenburg, Berlin's neighborhoods have something for everyone.

Decent location - but too noisy

Reviewed By Clogger1970

Two nights with family in a cube!! Good points - decent location, beach bar, clean room and bathroom facilities, good price, quirky. Bad points - so noisy (dread to think what it’s like in summer), very small, high ropes closed (supposed to be open) Would recommend based on cost and location.

Practical location

Reviewed By r0nnelluk

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel on Warschauer Str in the Friedrichshain area of Berlin's inner East. The location is great. Its five minutes from the Warschauer Str underground and overground train stations, this minutes on a train to Alexanderplatz and the sights of Unter den Linden. The area is a bit of a rough and ready bohemian area. Plenty of bars, restaurants, late night off licences and takeaways. Simon Dach Str is two streets away. The East Side gallery is a stones throw away. There is a new shopping mall opposite ( East Side Mall) and a large ReWe supermarket opposite. The street also has a busy tram line in front of the hotel, you will hear passing trams if you are in a room at the front. The five min walk from the stations to the hotel could be a little unnerving at night for some, with open drug dealing taking place and pushers actively offering their wares, but a polite "no" and continuing to walk solves this. Not a dangerous feel to the area, just some people might not like this. Certainly nothing to do with the hotel, but guests should be aware. There are no lifts, you have to walk up the stairs. My room was cleaned daily, bed comfortable, TV worked. The bathroom is basic and small, but no complaints. Staff at the desk have always been pleasant enough, I've never had any issues here. Certainly not a place to book for a romantic stay, or to lounge about in, more somewhere to get your head down for the night in a practical location.

Die Überschrift sagt schon fast alles. Sehr freundliches Personal und das Frühstück wurde mit Herz zubereitet. Zimmer was sehr sauber.

Gastehaus Lazarus

Convenient and quiet location, bizarre accommodation

Reviewed By AlanWhicker2000

The Gästehaus is on the campus of the Lazarus Christian benevolent group, which is mainly an old peoples’ home and a school of nursing. The accommodation is in the building of the old peoples’ home, and you can walk right in to the care home from the communal stairs and landings. The shared areas have the look and feel of a hospital, and there are notices in the elevator detailing forthcoming church services. The room itself was modern and spotlessly clean, if a little basic. There was no bottled water as in the photos on the listing, and no access to tea/coffee making facilities which was disappointing. The TV was mounted on the headboard wall so there was no way you could watch it. The reception desk is permanently closed and the booking confirmation says you will be provided with the code for the key box. This is not the case, you have to translate a notice attached to the door which tells you to collect your key from Hotel Grenzfall. This is an unfortunate name for a tower block.

Minimal hotel

Minimalist hotel my room have only the bed and the bathroom. There’s two electrical plug . In four day they don’t cleaning the room. If you need some amenities you must ask to the reception. The bed is good. The ventilation system work only with the windows close. The baggage room is available with surcharge ( 5 euro) only cash. Wifi is good for normal use. Is too a wifi premium for high speed .
