10 Shopping in Singapore That You Shouldn't Miss

July 3, 2021 Leonarda Pillsbury

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands(R) is one of Singapore's largest luxury shopping malls, with over 800,000 square feet of high-end retail shoppes such as Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Chanel. This eye-catching modern shopping mecca features a contemporary and open design, with breathtaking views of Singapore's city skyline. Located in the heart of the Central Business District, visitors can look forward to a refreshing mix of international luxury brands, emerging labels and new concepts.

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is a beautiful and stylish luxury shopping mall with a glass roof and amazing views of the Singapore financial district skyline. It has an excellent food court and you can visit the ArtScience Museum which is right outside the mall, as well as get the most amazing views of Singapore city skyline. There are some great restaurants here but what we really enjoyed was eating at the food court and enjoying the light display just in front above the round cordoned off area. We visit Singapore quite often for shopping and sightseeing and use it as a getaway, so we really like to come to this part of the island. With the ArtScience Museum and Gardens by the Bay which are nearby we will continue to visit the Shoppes in the future for shopping and eating and to enjoy the amazing views of Singapore's skyline.

Jewel Changi Airport

Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel) - Singapore’s brand new multi-dimensional lifestyle destination! Located right in the heart of Singapore Changi Airport, Jewel integrates one-of-a-kind play attractions and extensive landscaping with over 280 exciting shopping and dining concepts, a 130-room hotel and airport facilities for travellers.

If you have at least 2.5 hours spare between flights then you need to head over to The Jewel. Remember that this brand new attraction at Changi Airport is located Land Side which means having to complete the Immigration form and exit the airport (quick and easy). Alternatively if you are staying over in Singapore then you can visit before you fly out - there is a special dedicated “early check-in desks” area inside The Jewel where you can check in and drop your bags for your flight (departing from any of the 4 terminals). The Jewel is directly attached to Terminal 1, and there are walkways connecting it to T2 and T3. The centre piece is the 40m high “rain vortex” which is surrounded by a lush tropical jungle. After seeing many photos and having high expectations, I was still blown away by the scale and beauty of this attraction. In the evenings there is a free 5min light show that takes place at 7.30pm, 8.30pm, 9.30pm, 10.30pm and 11.30pm. There are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants to choose from inside The Jewel.

Had a great lunch at the hawker center, there are quite a number of food stalls selling Nasi Padang and a handful doing delicious briyani. We end up having nasi padang from 2 different stalls and a plate of chicken briyani from a stall nearest to us, only regret we should have ordered the mutton briyani. All in all, it was a delicious lunch. After lunch we went around to buy the delightful malay cakes or kueh kueh as it is known. There are afew of these stalls selling these kueh kueh. Bought some of it and it was wonderful, just like we had it in the old days.

Located next to the water across from Sentosa Island, the mall is beautifully set up as an easygoing and fun shopping destination. Everything about the hotel was perfect. The suite was beautiful and in keeping with the hotels era. The butler service was very good, the staff through out the hotel were attentive, friendly, polite and helpful. The bed comfortable, a pillow menu allowing for a change if desired. An elegant bathroom. Comfortable chairs and a table on the balcony to look at the garden, was very peaceful. Breakfast in the Tiffin Room was extensive and encompassing both eastern and western food, served promptly in lovely surroundings. Altogether a perfect stay for our 50th wedding anniversary. All the little extras to help us celebrate were much appreciated. The pool area was also a popular spot with us, reminiscent of a by gone era.

Some key stores in Plaza Singapura include John Little, Yamaha and Spotlight, and its multiple dining options ensure that you’ll be well-fed. You can also satisfy your entertainment needs with a large Golden Village cinema on the top floor.

This place is always happening even on weekday evenins as well as whole days on weekends. It has many good restarants on each floor as well as the food court on the top floor. Also, they have Mark & Spencer & Daiso as well as many well-known high-, mid- & low-end shops in addition to the movie theater on the top floor. I strongly recommend this place, and, though it is directly above Doby Ghaut MRT Station, you can access the mall by about a little more than 10-minute walk from Sommerset MRT Station as well.
