Hotel Nikko Alivila Yomitan Resort Okinawa

Hotel Nikko Alivila / Yomitan Resort Okinawa has a unique Spanish colonial style displayed by its exterior red tiled roof and white walls complimented by the blue ocean of Okinawa. The name "Alivila" is combination of the Spanish words "alivio" (relaxation) and "villa" (country house) that perfectly defines business and leisure traveler's vacation experience here. Each of the 397 bright Caribbean style luxury hotel room accommodations have a dramatic ocean view and the various fine restaurants and bars offer a memorable resort experience.

Good hotel but not perfect

Reviewed By TokyoB

Stayed here in December 2020 and the Xmas dinner was a highlight. While the hotel is very good, it falls back compared to the Club at Busena where we stayed the previous 4 days due to the small balconies, self-parking (especially when it rains) and inconvenient location (we were stuck in traffic for over an hour). Also note that the indoor pool costs extra. Solid 4 stars, but maybe we will try the brand-new Honshinoya Okinawa next door for our next vacation.

Typical 80s resort hotel , not a good value for money

Reviewed By Shuanito

It is a typical 80s-90s style resort hotel (reminding me more of a Las Vegas type hotel). For the price we paid (around 200$ per night ) the service was rather ordinary. Breakfast would cost around 20$ extra per person, and 5$ per night for parking (beware of hidden costs!) I have been to much better hotels in Japan that offer a better value. The Onsen/Sauna was good, it also had an outdoor Onsen (not natural one though).

A wonderful location for a sunshine holiday with amazing food.

This property is outstanding in terms of accommodation standard, facilities and food on offer. Some people say it is a little remote but for us this was one of its main attractions. Well away from the hustle and bustle of Naha yet close enough if you really wanted to make a day trip there or eat out in the evening. We didn’t! The hotel very kindly provided a great free pickup service to and from Naha airport which was much appreciated. From the moment we arrived we were treated as valued customers by the wonderful staff. We stayed in one of the villas for two people with its own pool and separate sleeping quarters and lounge/kitchenette. It was huge and had everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed swimming in our own pool as well as in the beautiful outdoor pool in the grounds. I also went to Uza beach just outside the property to paddle in the clear lagoon at low tide. Just make sure you wear flip flops or water shoes to protect your feet from the sharp coral and other rocks. It is a great place to observe marine life. I also enjoyed two complimentary exercise sessions in the early morning- SUP yoga in the swimming pool and stretch and relaxation. This was despite that instructions were mainly in Japanese. The hotel is very convenient to enjoy walks to the nearby lighthouse and park area on the headland but go early as it becomes very hot later in the day. We mostly ate in the fine dining restaurant where the chef and his team provided the most exquisitely presented and tasty food - a cross between French/Italian and Okinawan. On two occasions we sampled the in-room dining, which was like being served in the restaurant. We loved that so much of the food was locally sourced, including from their own organic farm just beside the hotel. We particularly enjoyed some of their seafood dishes in the evening such as the daily catch dish acqua pazza style but beware it is enormous. Their squid ink pasta and tiramisu okinawan style were also wonderful. Breakfasts provided a great spread and plenty of choice especially of fruit and Japanese dishes. Breads tended to be white and French style but if you get a chance sample the purple potato bread rolls and purple potato margarine - in fact anything made from the famous okinawan purple potatoes!! Although the accommodation is pricey, the food even in the fine dining restaurant, is very reasonably priced. Given the size of portions we often only chose to eat one course. This was because of the complimentary drinks and snacks on offer in the sunset lounge every evening which we took great pleasure in enjoying. We stayed 6 nights and by the time we left we felt we had acquired a new family. All staff were so welcoming, courteous and helpful- from the General Manager who spoke to us on a regular basis, to the cleaning staff. Particular mention must be made of Ashimine in Reception who welcomed us to the hotel and was very helpful on a number of occasions, not least, sorting out the timing of the cleaning of the room. In the restaurant Hiragana the restaurant manager could not do enough for us ensuring we always got the seat we wanted both at breakfast and in the evening. He explained the dishes to us and welcomed us every time as did the other staff such as Mazuda with real pleasure and bows. We also were privileged to meet the chef and his team who made a special point of coming out from the kitchen to show their appreciation of our custom. The girls in the Sunset lounge also did a great job. We were so sad to have to say goodbye to all the staff when we left. The fact that so many of them gathered to say goodbye and wave us off was testimony to the personal service they gave us. We cannot recommend this Relais and Chateau hotel enough and would love to return.

Beach house hide away

Reviewed By Glenda B

There's nothing nicer than listening to waves crashing through an open window at night. This sweet little guest house sits on the edge of the ocean about 50 mins by cab from Naha. It has nice clean rooms, a high ceilinged common area with beer on tap, comfortable outside deck areas that overlook the surf (and some of those ubiquitous concrete groins common to Japanese coasts). Breakfast is typical of a guesthouse in Japan; fruit & yohurt, soup, egg, salad and seaweed. Good coffee! Sadly, the steps that used to go directly to a private beach have been washed away making it impossible to access the water from the property. Two bikes are available at the hotel for use for free.

The “Yaki Niku” of Luxury Japanese Resorts

Reviewed By Scott S

This is the “yaki niku” of luxury Japanese resorts: delicious if you want to put in the effort. The Good: - the room is amazing - interior decoration is very nice and high quality - the design of the hotel fits well with the surrounding natural environment - the pool is very nice and heated, so even though it was a little chilly when we went we could enjoy it - the staff are friendly - food quality is good The Bad: - the food options are terrible. The only in-room dining is this incredibly inconvenient DIY option that you have to essentially prepare yourself. With only one microwave oven in the room and a fancy hot plate it takes forever to heat up a meal for a family. You would expect the staff to prepare this for you especially given the price. If we had known in advance how annoying this is we never would have ordered it. - arranging a time to eat is very challenging. There are very limited time slots with few options. - the beach is a natural beach that looks nice but is basically unusable aside from a quick stroll. There is really no sand and you are walking on jagged coral and rock. - the laundry is self-serve and inconvenient (slow and limited). We were torn between a 3 and 4 star rating but the reality is at this price point you expect better. Would not recommend for families. Very nice for couples who prioritize the Hoshinoya room quality and environment and are willing to deal with the inconveniences.

Blue Steak Wonder Nagahama

Over our expectations

Reviewed By Patty L

My husband and I were travelling for a month on the main island of Okinawa and had stayed in a few furnished accommodations. We stayed in Blue Steak Nagahama twice for a total of over 2 weeks and I must say this tops the list and is beyond all our expectations. Not only the place is beautifully furnished equipped with modern facilities, they are well designed and equipment is of high quality. For example, electrical outlets hidden on the sides of the big table, very convenient for the use of laptops; lights come with dimmers and two-way switches; Toto Neorest for the two electrical toilets; small speaker provided for your phones as well as a satellite TV that you can choose internet channels like Youtube. Other things we like include good quality washer and dryer, an abundance of fluffy towels, plush slippers, big and bright bathroom (one of them especially big) and most importantly, the wall-to-wall big window with a view of the ocean that offers a magnificent background blue on a good day. This very new apartment building has only 6 apartments and is thus very quiet. We stayed in apartments 202 and 401. Being on a higher floor, 401 offers a slightly better view of the ocean. However, it seems to be a touch smaller than 202, and this can be felt especially in the big bathroom. I suspect 402 will offer the best view and size. I must also mention that everything was very well-managed from check-in to check-out. When I made a few simple requests on kitchen equipment, it was delivered promptly. As long as the management can continue to upkeep its standard in terms of service and equipment, I will be more than happy to come back any time. p.s. I recommend this Italian restaurant called il Gastro Sara (皿の上の自然) near Onna village for its delicate cuisine.
