I have been here 3 times and is very nice. The breakfast it`s fine and the rooms are pretty good. The staff is very kind and they really try to solve you any inconvenient you can have. The parking is not always available so you have to park your car in the street. And in the nights you can`t use it to let the car park. I think that`s the only big problem you can have here. In my opinion it`s a really good hotel that allows you to know the city of Paysandu and have a good time.

Estancia San Nicanor - Hotel Termal

Experience Tranquility

San Nicanor is an absolute must if you visit Uruguay. Ralf and his family operate this beautiful, tranquil, estancia of nearly 2000 acres. The facilities are fantastic. Two of the swimming pools are fed by thermal waters from a 1000 feet down! The food is absolutely first rate and served in a beautiful renovated facility by caring folks. I stayed only two nights but should have planned on a longer stay to truly enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this place. Wild Emus roam the property as well as loads of Peacocks and the eucalyptus trees team with parrots .Ralf believes in letting everything stay as close to nature as possible. There are a wide variety of rooms to choose from and even a wonderful camping area. A great internet system allows access to everything (it was certainly the best connection I had in nearly a month of travel). If power is lost during a storm there are two generators that click on right away. Don't miss it!!

Nice hotel 1 block south of the main plaza.

My wife and I spent 1 night with a Booking.com confirmed reservation.. We took the 12:15 PM COPAY Bus(125Ap each) from Colon, arriving at Paysandu Bus Terminal at 1:30 PM. It's part of a new mall where we changed money, visited the supermarket, and asked the tourist information attendant to call our Hotel Plaza for its free transfer, 1 km west. 15 minutes later we entered this older hotel with a nice receptionist who spoke good hotel English. After copying our passports she asked a housekeeper to show us to our room, #255 in the back. The small wood floored room has a comfortable double with nightstands, shelved closet, refer, table and chair, window opening to a side street, and nice tiled bathroom with stall shower. We had good secure WIFI, and a nice 6:30AM buffet breakfast; OJ, yoghurt, cereal fresh fruit, fruit salad, and medialunas and cakes. We walked 1 block north to the main plaza and its Basilica, 1 block south to the Historical Museum, and 2 km west to see Palacio Rizzo. In the morning, we took the free transfer(very professional) to the bus terminal. This convenient hotel is well located for restaurants, shopping, and is a very good value.

Bring your own toilet paper!

Reviewed By RetiredTraveler99

As far as budget hotels go, I have stayed in worse; but the staff gave me no assitance at all. Even after several requests for toilet paper I never received any. I am glad I always carry an emergency roll with me. It's not an extremely attractive place, especially the bathroom, but the location is not far from the center of town and restaurants. The breakfast was only OK. The one good thing about this hotel is that the towels were the softest I have ever had in any hotel in South America. I won't be returning here.

Bare bones hotel in a terrific location

Reviewed By csmith123

We opted for a top floor room with a terrace. The room itself was very bare bones. If you want a hair dryer or remote control for the television, you need to borrow it from the front desk. The shower hot water would cut off periodically, you just need to be able to move quick and wait for it to come back again after a few seconds. The location cannot be beat. Overlooking a quaint square with plenty of tapas restaurants, musicians and acrobats. We enjoyed our terrace every night. I would stay again despite the fairly spartan accomodations. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

A flawed gem

Reviewed By Andy B

We stayed for 3 nights at this beautiful estancia. The grounds are extensive and bird-rich, the rooms are basic but have good wifi access, the pool is a nice place to while away the afternoon and the sky at night is something to behold. On these criteria the estancia scores well. Where it fails is the ability to communicate and take providing dinner seriously. On our first night we were the only ones staying and a choice of steak (quite tough) or pasta was offered. No starter was provided and drinks had to be chased up. On the second night several people were present and a BBQ with starters, salads and different meats was on tap. On the last night several French guests were present and a 3 course meal was provided. The provision of food seemed to be dependent on who would be there and in what numbers. Normally such a relaxed attitude is admirable and a refreshing contrast to formulaic menus in other establishments. Here, however, after long days out, it was simply irritating. Regarding language, none of the staff spoke English and Anne, the owner, preferred to speak with us in French. One consequence of this was that all our requests had to go through her and staff kept a distance from us. Finally, quality of food was not brilliant overall. Stay here for the location by all means but if gastronomy is your main interest then this may not be for you.
