Excellent service

Reviewed By kwan3452

From the moment we arrived till we departed, excellent service from all the staff was experienced. A relaxed check in comfort accompanied by drinks. The rooms had so many facilities not seen in most hotels, e.g. the face wash, shaving foam and aftershave in addition to moisturiser and lotions for ladies. Complimentary Snacks & teabags were refreshed daily. The best experience was the keseki dinners we enjoyed on both nights. Besides the fresh ingredients, the two serving staff went out of their way to translate the ingredients so that we could understand. I hope that hotel management will convey the appreciation from all of us staying in 301-304. I attached a photo.

A wonderful retreat with a host that will make you feel like a local

Reviewed By Christin C

I feel like I found a treasure when I stayed at this guesthouse. Everything about it is peaceful. To start, you are on the tiny Daikonshima Island. Then when you enter the small guesthouse, all the details and design make you feel comfortable and at home. The beds are cosy and give you privacy, and there are views out over the fields. It is right down the road from the famous Yuushien garden. You can also rent bicycles for an affordable price to peacefully explore the tiny island. The host is kind and will make you feel safe and at home. He speaks wonderful English and I really enjoyed talking with him as I learned about Daikonshima.

Difficult to communicate

Reviewed By georgematthews

Nice enough hotel on the lake front (if you are fortunate enough to get a room lake side which I wasn’t) but it was extremely difficult to sort issues out as the staff speak little or no English. Now I know I am in a foreign country but they are in the hospitality business and should be able to communicate in English. The room was a reasonable size but was on the 8th floor and had no internet but this was eventually resolved by them plugging in a dedicated router in the room. Breakfast was poor, no egg station which all our other hotels thus far have had and the scrambled eggs provided appeared to be made from powdered eggs. To drink in the bar requires a cover charge of ¥830 per person. We managed to get this waived the first night because the ‘tiger’ was on duty. As a consequence around 40 of us drank in the bar. The following night they insisted on payment and no one stayed. Learn a lesson here.

Good location - good price

Reviewed By TassieTripping

Great convenient location being a short walk from the north exit of the station and restaurants. The entry was a little confusing as others have said but I used the access from the lane at the side of the building next to the 7-Eleven to access the elevator which was not so bad. (Reception is on the first floor and if you enter from the street, luggage needs to be carried up the double flight of stairs.) The room was small but clean and comfortable and staff were helpful. There were pillow options, additional yukata, air purifiers and humidifiers in a shelved area near the elevators.

While it was very nice restaurant in a different location

While it was very nice restaurant in a different location. There is a lot of competition in this area for Onsen. This is a smaller property with a nice lake view but not being able to where are yukata to dinner was a little strange. The meals here were great. Breakfast was served in the same location. Even with a Japanese speaker in our group communication was a little confused. Facility was clean. Having stayed in other onsen with a very natural setting and beautiful gardens this felt more like a hot tub. Awesome popsicles offered in the onsen might have been the highlight

Perfect hot spring spa

Reviewed By BlueRusso

Your street shoes stay at the front entrance. Indoors, slippers. In your room, stocking feet. The carpeted hallways have fresh cut flowers in alcoves. By chance, we were assigned a spacious suite that, by sliding the partitions, subdivides into four separate rooms. Along with the strictly traditional room design with sliding partitions and tatami mats, there's inconspicuous adjustable air conditioning, ceiling lights (fluorescents behind rice paper look wonderful), and an abundance of electrical outlets. We also had a fine view of the hotel's garden. The room's bath area has two separate toilets in their own small rooms (with slippers), two sinks, and a separate shower/bath room. The suite could comfortably accomodate a family. To judge from a play area on the lobby floor, the hotel is family-friendly. I realize that not everyone enjoys sleeping on a futon (I'd like more padding beneath me), but even if that's a challenge, the hotel is so quietly elegant and the hot springs are so nice (including a foot bath at the entrance) that it's well worth a slightly hard night. The hotel's onsen (bathouse) facility has its own escalator. Our group dinner at the hotel was, to my untrained Western palate, wonderful. I had wondered what others' enthusiasm for onsen was about--I'd only stayed at one modest onsen hotel. I didn't explore the hotel's environs due to a rainy evening, but the hotel itself was so hospitable that it was an extraordinary night. It's a perfect place to visit with friends. I regret not having more photos to share.
