I regularly use Sakura Hotel Nippori to do business as it has reliable wifi and great facilities. The cost is extremely reasonable and staff are helpful. The location is great, it's right in the heart of the trendy Yanesen district and very convenient for both Nippori and Sendagi stations, making it easy to get from Narita airport and travel around Tokyo. You can even visit Ueno park and its many museums on foot. The rooms are simple and clean. The restaurant has a wide variety of international cuisine and a great selection of world beers. I would equally recommend this to people traveling around Japan, or for those who need a teleworking base.

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is located uptown in Mejiro. While it is in the heart of Tokyo, the hotel is surrounded by our spacious scenic green garden, which gives the hotel an aura of quiet serenity. The property consists of three buildings: the hotel, the plaza and the tower; and a traditional-style Japanese garden. The hotel has 260 rooms, 36 banquet halls, 5 wedding facilities and 12 restaurants. The garden lets our guests experience the four seasons through its changing colors: camellias bloom in the winter, cherry trees bloom in the spring, fireflies fill the garden in the summer and the leaves change colors in the autumn. (以下は同文の英語版となります) I have stayed at many hotels in Japan and abroad, but it was the worst experience I rarely had. First of all, if you think you are tired of walking on a steep hill from the Edogawa Bridge, the lobby is very crowded. Even though it was a corona disaster, I was told to sit in a crowded chair and wait, and I waited for 25 minutes. The staff is imposing and lacks a shred of elegance or luxury. If you observe closely, it is clear that there is a problem with the operation because the usher seems to have a shortage of check-in windows even though there are people who are not on hand. I was looking forward to the hot springs and pool, but I thought that it would be equally crowded at this minute, so I decided to stay in my room intently. I opened the fridge and was surprised again. Everything except for hot drinks, including the minibar, has been removed. Is this a corona measure or something? Is it a judgment that it is dangerous for customers to touch the bottle sticky? It was a response that I had never seen at all at other hotels, and I wanted to drink cold juice, but there was only water, so I was dissatisfied. As for the minibar, there was a small piece of paper asking you to contact the room attendant if necessary, but it is troublesome to call because it is difficult to understand whether you forgot to set up (I think that when a customer says that they are serving, they do not say service in the first place). Looking at the check-in the day before, I thought that the breakfast venue the next morning would be very crowded, but it was a plan. We were told we would wait for more than 30 minutes, so we were completely disappointed and decided to give up our breakfast ticket. At other hotels, I usually enjoy staying until the last minute of check-out, but I didn't want to stay in such a low-level space any longer, so I checked out at 9 o'clock the next morning and went home early. The gardens and fireflies were good, but that's it. As for the others, overall, the unit price per guest and the age of the service and facilities are not balanced at all, and it is not a hotel that can be recommended to others. I am sorry to sound completely personal, but as a result of drastically reducing the number of employees due to restructuring, it may not be possible to provide services suitable for luxury hotels. At present, it seemed that some of the frontline staff had good human resources, but when these people started to give up on the company, it seemed to me that the company would finally fall into a vicious cycle and sooner or later fall into a management crisis. At the time of checkout, the middle-aged man next to me was probably deliberately ignoring the staff's question, "Would you like to enjoy your stay at a leisurely pace?" I think the hotel side must read what this stunned, silent expression is saying. Thank you for reading this long article.

Basic Hotel

As we booked through Rickshaw Travel, I didn't select this hotel myself. I was just told I would be booked into a 3 Star hotel that was near a Station. I have no complaints! The room is very small but I understand that is typical in Tokyo. It was like a small version on a UK Travel Lodge. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. This is really the kind of hotel that you just use to sleep. There is not really anything else to do here apart from the public baths but I was too shy to do this! Although the two rooms we stayed in(We went to Kyoto half way through for a few days and then came back) both had Windows, you couldn't see anything out of them, as they were frosted. I'm guessing that's because of how close the hotel was to other buildings. I'm not sure if it's the same for all rooms but something to bear in mind if you like to look out the window! We stayed in 601 & 701. We had Breakfast included but we only ate here once, the food was okay, it was a Japanese/Western style Buffet but I would recommend skipping breakfast here and just grabbing something cheap from a Konbini instead. The location was good, it's on a quiet side street, away from the hustle and bustle but only a few minutes walk from a couple of stations, shops and restaurants. The Tokyo Dome is close by and it's a 20 minute walk to Akibhabra and The Imperial Palace Gardens. The staff were lovely, they spoke basic English and were very efficient with Check in & Out. The man behind the desk on our last day, called a taxi for us when our transfer didn't show up, which was very helpful as I was starting to get stressed about missing my flight! Overall if you are looking for a base to sleep while you explore Tokyo, you can't go wrong with this hotel.

Update Since 2010: Consistently Good

Reviewed By Paul7878

This review is an update from my last posted review in 2010. I also stayed here in 2011 and 2014, it did not post a review because I didn’t see any changes. It’s four years since my last visit and the service, rooms, breakfast, and everything else is still the same as I remember. Since their last remodeling (“renew”), everything looks and feels new. No noticeable wear and tear. Anyways, the only change is there is now a coin-operated laundry machine is now available in the lobby. Very convenient, because, on previous trips, the staff didn’t know if there is a coin laundry nearby and I couldn’t find one when I explored the neighborhood.

Best ryokan in Tokyo

Reviewed By Philibert_K

We were there 4,5 years ago, but I recommended it to a friend who went last year and had a wonderful experience too. It's clean, with big rooms, a tasty and generous traditional breakfast, all for a very decent price. The decoration is traditional, and there is even a onsen on the roof. The staff was very nice, though the people at the desk spoke only Japanese... or if not, at the time I'm sure no one English, French nor Spanish or Hebrew. So a little bit more difficult to get informations. But other than that, the perfect place to stay in Tokyo, not far from the metro and Ueno Park. We were with our 5 years old daughter, and she loved it too.
