The great views that you get after climbing 175 steps to the top is the reward. The walk from the cruise terminal was a leisurely 15 min, 2 Euro entry fee is reasonable. There were lots of people on the beach watching a beach football match. It was good to spend the day in Rostock & Warnemunde on a hot day instead of taking the long non a/c train trip to Berlin. In any case, we've been to Berlin previously.

Well, if you like the chalk cliffs or not, everybody has to decide for himself. They are characteristic for Rügen, so take a look at them. There are different places where you can especially look at this natural spectacle. Of course the Victoria observation deck is a nice point (maybe the most beautiful one)? But along the Hochuferweg there are so many beautiful perspectives that you should not miss. If you go there by car, it's your own fault (parking, fees, still walking). You can not get lost... and public transportation goes there as well. We saved the entrance fee, because we were not interested in the Documentation Center, only movement in the open air, view, once from Sassnitz, once from Lomme. Important: Near Königsstuhl it will be full, just as near Sassnitz. In between there is a lot of peace and quiet. Recommended if you are good on foot, to walk back down to the sea (to Sassnitz). Here the rocky outcrops become really dramatic.

We travelled independently to Rostock from our cruise ship instead of taking the cruise line's excursion to Berlin. The Warnemunde train station is a 10 min walk from the cruise terminal and day tickets by S-Bahn cost 6 Euro each. The train takes 21 mins to Rostock Hauptbahnhof and you can either walk to the city centre or take the tram, which is covered by the day ticket, we opted to walk one way. Our primary reason to visit Rostock was to see the Astronomical Clock dating back to 1472, amazing piece of engineering with the original clockworks, precision workmanship that works today after more than 5 centuries. The clock is wound everyday! Being a Sunday, most of the city was closed. We however walked the lovely streets & had a light lunch as well.

What a lovely surprise! A very pretty and extremely popular street lined with cafes, restaurants and shops. It's a five minute walk from the cruise terminal and when you've seen all there is to see there the beautiful beach, the teepott and the lighthouse are close by. Alter Strom is bustling and there's a great atmosphere, it really is a very nice place to visit.
