Leaves absolutely nothing to be desired

Reviewed By Rita A

We spent three nights here, loved it so much, we would have liked to stay much longer. The whole compound emanates a wonderful calm and serenity, is very tastefully designed, the pool area across the little village street very inviting, clean, and set in a lush green garden. The Lake is right next to My Village, inviting for beautiful walks with the most spectacular bird sightings! Breakast and dinner were a feast, including fruit and desert. I recommend the set of curries! Yummy! Last but not all least is the staff. Mr. Justin runs the show in a perfectly unpretentious, professional, and warm manner and treats the junior staff with same respect as the guests. We booked our one-day safari through him and I am very glad we did. He packed us a lovely breakfast and lunch and our driver Mr. Paty went out of his way to make sure we had a spectacular day. One recommendation: book only a half- day tour. You cannot leave the vehicle at all except during lunch break and it is rather long to be crammed in the vehicle for 12 hours. And even in half a day you get to see eveything there is to see. Borrow the bikes which are available for free and ride around the lakes and temples. Great fun and very relaxing activity!

Only minor drawback was the level of housekeeping was not as good as Bentota Villa however we had a good relaxing stay

Peaceful Paradise!

Reviewed By MicaPinfold

This resort is INSANE! One not to be missed that’s for sure. From the moment we stepped into the gate we felt like we were in paradise. The vibrant trees, the noise of the lake flowing and the birds, it was beautiful. We were greeted by a lovely man who is the owner who could not be kinder or more helpful. He showed us up to the pool area where we were treated to a fresh juice and dinner was booked in. We stayed in the room for bird watching- WOW is all I can say. The rooms were so luxurious and clean, with a complimentary plate of delicious biscuits. We spent some time in the pool area and headed out on our safari, on return our food was ready and we sat chatting to Richard, he was ever so interesting and so keen to get to know us, which we loved. He was also very good at his knowledge if different birds which my husband LOVED. Dinner was amazing, you must try the samosas- best ones ever. We walked into the town which took no longer than 5 minutes by walking and on return went back to a lovely cool room. He had thought of everything. AC/fan/mini fridge/mosquito net/hammock! Best nights sleep we had and then up early bird watching from our terrace. BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING, we had hoppers, fresh fruit, dahl, coconut pancakes, eggs… and everything was wonderful. Please make sure you book a stay here- you will not be disappointed!! Thank you to you and your amazing family, we will return!

great place

The hotel is currently reconstructing the garden and 2nd floor, so it doesnt look too good from outside. But the rooms are a great value, its very clean and modern even by european standards. They speak good english and helped us with any problems that arrived during our stay. What i especially want to recommend is booking a safari tour through them. I did it because of recommendations even before coming to sri lanka, and i wasnt dissapointed. The price was fair even without negotiations, and the guide was amazing ( I think his name is Nissanka). We saw leopard 3 times in one day, and all of those were because of the guide - he knew where the leopard was likely moving and just patently waited in the spots, while other drivers were racing between themselves and missing most of the stuff.

Stayed here for one day with family. Personally didn't have any complaints! Staffs were brilliant and attentive for all our requests! They even prepared an early morning breakfast so that I could take it for my safari :) These hotels were badly hit by pandemic, I hope things get normal soon as most hotels at this area were closed down. P.S. Safari was brilliant at Yala.

Disappointing

Reviewed By Kevin S

A rather small room sparsely furnished with the bed pushed up against the wall. We've stayed in much nicer rooms for half this price in Udawalawe and Ella. And it wasn’t the room we booked. They have double, a single double bed, no patio area but a window view over the garden. A deluxe double and single bed, no patio area and a win-dow facing a fence 2 metres away. And two family rooms overlooking the garden with seats outside them. We booked a deluxe double, preferred the deluxe but should have just opted for the family room but they were full for our nights. Both mornings breakfast was while on safari so can't be judged against the normal breakfast. It was unusual. Crisps, a nice sandwich once, soggy toastie the second time, bananas and a chocolate milk drink. Choco-late? Water and coke included for later. A strange and not appetising selection. And none of it in a cooler box in an attempt to keep it cool. Dinner on the first night was a very nice whole fish between us with many accompanying dishes. Good taste and fair value 1600R each. The second night was chicken, not a lot of meat on the bones, less side dishes not good val-ue at 1600r per person. And the main reason for choosing this place, several email promises of personal attention, maybe I'll drive you myself, if not a person with many years experience. Well someone aged 25 in an unmarked jeep so no idea who he worked for arrived. Ok driving and spotting but very lacking in the safari experience we are used to. We have had many safari experiences in Africa, we had no expectation to see a leopard, they are wild an-imals and don't work to plan. But someone who doesn’t do the basics of helping you with a breakfast hamper in and out of the jeep and chooses a breakfast rest stop area overrun with monkeys trying to steal food needs a les-son in safari service. The second day we said don’t' use the monkey stop, if we are going to eat in the jeep just stop at a nice view overlooking a waterhole, there are many scenic spots. He didn’t stop at all, eat while we move!! And there is a glass screen between you and the driver, no window to open, so no explanations of animals or flora and fauna as we moved. Very poor, just trying to find a leopard, and failing. And for all the much vaunted best ex-perienced drivers with great safari contacts, when a leopard was spotted and the calls went out between drivers no one rang our driver. So no leopard although we did see the rarer black bear at very close range for a few minutes. Not one I’d consider again.
