"DAR MHAMID"is the Balla family, after the famous tribe A'Arib, the" blue men "from nomadic Saharan desert. The tribal confederation took root in the region through the Draa and founded the village in the eleventh century M'hamid Elghizlane Dynasty Saadians. In the 1880s, driven by desertification, the tribe was forced to be sedentary. The Balla family, eager to preserve the family heritage, decided, in order to keep his herd of camels, to create a guest house and travel agency to make you share the wealth of its culture and its heritage nomad. Moroccan hospitality is well known. With "Sahara Holiday guest house" is a reality as experienced and dynamic team puts its professionalism and service quality requirements of each traveler who entrusted to him.

Built in the village of M'Hamid el ghrizlane, our luxury hotel in Zagora province is perfectly integrated in the natural habitat. For the confort of our guests, our luxury hotel in Southern Morocco is equipped with a swimming pool and an integrated SPA that offers traditional Hammam steam baths & massages. From Dar Azawad, you can easily trek the desert and discover the beauties of the Sahara desert. Our hotel has set up 3 upmarket camps in the desert that offer incredible confort in stunning natural settings. Dar Azawad is located in M'Hamid el ghrizlane, a village 80 Km south of Zagora and 250 km from Ouarzazate.
Our room at Dar Azawad could best be described as 'rustic' with some charm. No fridge, or complementary water, the bed was okay and the bathroom just okay. Breakfast was not very good, with few choices. Wifi was terrible, except in reception.

A beautiful place to relax blue sky sunshine, I'll be back. The food was wonderful, I learned a lot and I can recommend everyone to go on vacation there.I would have liked to have stayed longer, but work is calling again in Europe, but as soon as I have another vacation I will definitely return.

In the middle of the palm grove the Kasbah Aladdin welcomes you in an authentic ambience advantageous for rest and for relaxation. We also organise external activities à la carte according to your desires : circuit in dromadary, fixed or wild bivouacs, meeting withs nomads... we assure you of our best dedication in keeping with the legendary hospitality of oasiens people. If you only want to experience an adventure in the middle of the desert, we suggest you go directly to our fixed bivouac at the foot of the large dunes of Chegaga, which can only be reached by 4x4 or camel.
Truly a very special place to stay near the Sahara desert. Accomodation is basic but clean, don't expect great hotel luxury. However, the hospitality of the owners is amazing. Good meals too. We did a one day tour with 4x4 to Chigaga dunes, an unforgettable experience.

A lovely little riad in a great and very peaceful setting. It's location is at the end of a short track off the main road to M'Hammid which is just a few kilometers further on where the road ends (Camel caravans take a further 50 days to reach Timbuktu). The riad itself is surrounded by the desert, albeit fairly green desert with an abundance of tamarind trees. The dunes nearby are small but a short walk (or camel ride) takes you to some 50' ones. There are several ancient villages and occupied Kasbahs nearby including the old M'Hammid Kasbah; The caravans' jumping off point for the desert crossing. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. Four of the rooms are directly off the roof terrace which provides pleasant views over the locality. The food is excellent with some of the vegetables home grown. Wine and beer are available. The owner Roselyn (who is french) and her staff are very friendly and welcoming but speak very little English.

Dar Sidi Bounou experience Living in the Sun and Sleeping under the Moon and Stars. Our Desert accommodation in a restored traditional daub house, serving delicious authentic beldi food, including vegetarian. Come to relax and enjoy music and tranquil ambiance in a palmerie garden on the edge of the Sahara dunes at Bounou, M’hamid. Take a desert excursion by camels (or 4x4) overnight or longer. The guides set up the tents, make the fire and cook − you just ride or walk beside the camels to a quiet place. Or you can take a walking tour of the ancient Berber Kasbah of Bounou and local villages. Gracious hospitality for adventurous individual travelers, families with children and groups of creative, artistic people. Relax under the palms, on the terraces, and on the dunes in the garden, or participate in the music, dance. In the winter evenings, sit around an inviting fire on the dunes and join in the drumming. Learn the local songs and dances, rhythms and techniques, bring your own instruments or use ours. With comfortable rooms in the house with terraces and en-suite bathrooms, N’wala huts and Berber tents on the dunes prices ranging from 20 Euros to 49 Euros prices are negotiable depending on how long you stay. Nancy and Daoud and the Staff at Dar Sidi Bounou invite you to be their guest and enjoy the magic of the Moroccan Sahara.
Dar Sidi Bounou is a small family-run establishment offering a personalized service and feels like a small family home rather that a large commercial tourist hotel. You can stay in the house upstairs with views of the oasis with a fabulous rooftop to watch the sunrise and sunset or practice yoga if that's your thing. Alternatively, there are the n'walla huts - made of adobe - out in the garden with shared facilities near the dunes, or Berber tents if you come as a large group. Let them know in advance. Daoud and Raja are great hosts and excellent cooks, and not just your regular couscous or tajine; this is imaginative cooking. Enjoy the village life in comfort. There is wifi in the main building but obviously not on the dunes where you should be enjoying an open fire and stargazing at night instead. Despite being right in the desert, access is relatively simple. The journey from Marrakech is over the spectacular Tizzi n'Tichka mountain pass (2260m). Buses depart daily at 11 a.m. from Marrakech (CTM bus) and also from Ouarzazate. There are shared taxis from Zagora, too. The CTM bus will drop you at Bounou, 6 km before M'hamid which is the last stop. Coming by rented car, Bounou is 1.5 hrs. drive south west of Zagora, just past the picturesque village of Oulad Driss. Dar Sidi Bounou is a good base from which to explore the desert and the oasis settlements in the region, or just simply enjoy the desert atmosphere from the comfort of the garden. Give yourself several days here to go walking in the different oases or rent a camel. Visit Ksar Bounou, the old village that is being slowly engulfed by sand dunes - and it is still inhabited! Ouled Driss is lovely, and the Monday market at M'hamid is quirky - "men's market" in the morning and the "women's market" in the late afternoon, though the sexes intermingle at both. On Saturday afternoon/evening the Joudour Sahara Culture Center in M'hamid (by the CTM office) has live music and a café. This is a celebration of local culture not to be missed. For the very best sunset views at the far west end of M'hamid, visit La Boussole camp for a mint tea and look out across the River Drâa floodplain, usually dry. It's 52 days to Timbouctou by camel from here, apparently. If you have transport, cross the bridge over the dry riverbed, Oued Drâa, at M'hamid and tour the oasis at the other side and visit the 7 Kasbahs Museum. Further afield, there is a Thursday market at Tagounite, and at Tamegroute, the green-glaze potteries should not be missed. Nearby, the underground alleyways of old Tamegroute and its ancient library nearby are also very interesting. Excursions to the dunes of Erg Chigaga are also possible from Dar Sidi Bounou, rather than organizing them from M'hamid town center. Overall, for a laid-back desert experience without the crowds and commercialism of Merzouga, Dar Sidi Bounou is the place to be for an authentic desert experience.

7 km from M´Hamid, in the oasis of Bouneau directly next to the dunes of the desert you find DarParu. This property with its spacious oasis garden, traditional desert house and its individual and comfortable rooms and suites, its meditation room, minaral water reservoir/-pool, with its many relaxation places and its own well, invites you to relax, to recover, to meditate: to heal. You're served local, international and also vegetarian delicatesses. We speak English, German, French. Spanish, Arabic.
This is a wonderful guest house with a doorway in the grounds directly into the Sahara. The rooms are charming, colourful, bijou, individually designed and clean, food is fresh and plentiful and the team who run the guesthouse can't do enough for you. The freshwater pool is perfect and heats as the day progresses as it's hot in the Sahara. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this guest house for a great base to discover the dessert with lots of chill out areas in the gardens.
