Long wait and mediocre food
Reviewed By Inez MWe have been here before as a family and decided to come back a few years later to have a birthday meal. I was doubting between giving them a 2 or 3 out of 5 this time. But had to go with a “poor” due to the low quality service, mediocre food and fairly high price for this area. I do think they might have had a bad day with very young and inexperienced waiters. A few reason why I have this low score: an average wait of close to 45minutes per course is too much. Glasses that were unused weren’t removed from the table, we were showed inside to our table 30 minutes before the first course arrived (we were having a drink on their outside terrace before), the duck was tough, the vegetarian dish of the week average tasting and the quiche was not restaurant quality. We paid €8.50 for a scoop of ice cream and some fruit. I don’t think we will come back here for food again, especially for €45-50 per person.

Reviewed By texas5242The hotel is essentially what an American would call the old courthouse. The building is historic and hence a bit quirky for a hotel. Our room was nice, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was very good for dinner, but breakfast was a bit average. The hotel itself is small, but the bar and restaurant are large and also has outdoor seating. We had a room on the top floor with a separate large bath and a large shower. The hotel has a small, oddly located, and very slow lift, but it worked and served its purpose. Heerenveen is not a "destination" town, but it is a nice city in the heart of Friesland agriculture. The homes and barns are very interesting.

Good service & great value for money

Staff was very accommodating and hotel had a nice lounge area where one could enjoy a complimentary coffee/tea in the afternoon & evenings as well. Good breakfast selection, we booked a room with bikes and could explore the island in a relaxing way for 3 days! Would recommend and hopefully return ourselves again one day.

Reviewed By PatOC1967A 1.5 hour drive from Schiphol Airport will find you in Makkum a village of Súdwest-Fryslân municipality, west of Bolsward on the banks of the lake IJsselmeer in the province Friesland of the Netherland and this delightful hotel sprawled on the coast and a hive of watercraft activities. A generously sized bar / restaurant is tastefully furnished and the centrally located bar draws the eye. Evening meals were plentiful and extremely tasty. Breakfast was a generous affair with a raft of hot and cold choices. A perfect stay.

Poor Customer Service
Reviewed By ThustageHaving become accustomed to great customer service throughout the Netherlands our arrival here was marred by the frosty receptionist . We had arrived by bicycle for one night as part of our tour and on checkin we were told that the restaurant was fully booked and asked in a somewhat condescending manner ‘have you not made an advance reservation?’. Having not logged into the hotels WiFi I couldn’t honestly recall. The unhelpful receptionist suggested I speak with her colleague in the restaurant. This I did, he couldn’t find a reservation for us either. However he did say he would have a table free for 8pm so we reserved that. Had the weather been fine we would have ridden back into Lemmer! The hotel is about 2km out of the town. After a shower I discovered we had indeed made a reservation and showed the receptionist the confirmation email from her colleague Chantel. I was then given a story that all guests are sent an email informing them that just because they have made a dinner reservation does not guarantee it! Really? An apology would have been so much more well received! The irony being that ‘Chantel’ informed us that we’d have to dine at six rather than seven due to staff shortages! We then went to the restaurant where it could be seen that there were two tables free which the unhelpful and defensive head waiter informed us were pre-booked. We were seated in what can best be described as the corridor. However, within a few minutes a further table became free and we were invited to take that. The meal itself was OK but honestly you could pay less for better food (and service) elsewhere. By the time we had finished our meal the two “Reserved” tables still remained unoccupied. Our room was fine but how this hotel can claim to be 4* is beyond me. We certainly won’t be back.

Good and kind
Reviewed By MijndertB2We visited for the weekend in partly Corona lockdown and the hotel did a lot to provide good food while serving people in the room on time slots. Breakfast was buffet but on timeslot to prevent people in masses. The reason for 4 out of 5 is the bed we had. A small and to soft bed. We slept very light due to this. The highlight of the weekend was Fleur, she worked at the frontdesk and was very friendly and helpful every day. Always smiling and being friendly to us and others.

Excellent choice
Reviewed By VanRiebeeckWe were impressed by this small hotel in Nes, a quaint village founded by whaling seamen, but now a tourist resort (without high-rise buildings!), on the Dutch North Sea island of Ameland. Admittedly our room was on the small side but is was very clean, comfortable and well-appointed with high quality goodies. The youthful staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. We had dinner in the hotel’s restaurant and the quality was perfect. The breakfast was also good and nicely served, but the choice was a little limited, as is the norm in the Netherlands. The bus service to and from the harbour stops right in front of the hotel. Ameland boasts extremely wide beaches and is very popular with Dutch and German tourists. It is only a 45-minutes ferry ride to the mainland.

Reviewed By margav296We stayed at "Het Weeshuis" for 3 nights and had a perfect time! The atmosphere at this very charming place felt really nice and warm. It was lovely to enjoy a nice tea and a glass of wine in the garden. The owner was very helpful in planning our bike trips and all the staff at the Weeshuis was really friendly. We also liked the availability of the honesty bar. The typical set Dutch breakfast was nice as well. All in all; a really lovely stay at this special place which we can't recommend enough!

Very good place to base your frisian adventure
Reviewed By gersonv180this place is a complete picture. It has a campsite,little houses, weird VW-hoses, a Bed and Breakfast. All types of stay. A perfect mixture with a little bar for food and drinks. If you want a good starting point to learn how to kite surf as well! Very kind service and just super quant and chilling. Almost Perfect.

Good food, nice room, terrible WiFi
Reviewed By Screen_name_CkEverything is alright. Employees are friendly, good breakfast, restaurant food is alright (all home made I reckon). Unfortunately they do advertise with free WiFi, although the WiFi is free, ot is far from stable, it closes and jumps back on. Not bad for whatsapp, however its awful if you need to be online for work.
