10 Antique Stores in Western Cape That You Shouldn't Miss

November 17, 2021 Jasper Kershner

South Africa’s most popular tourist destination offers the urban thrills of Cape Town, its adjacent wine country and an aura of the rich political history of South Africa. The Overberg's perfect whale-watching perches provide excitement of a different nature. The Garden Route's lakes and forests and the Klein Karoo's ostrich-farming towns and vineyards present another take on the Cape. For extra kicks, try bungee jumping or cage-diving among Great Whites.

I recently bought a little bottle of essential oil at this gorgeous store only to get back to Cape Town to find it almost empty - a factory default no doubt! Marti the owner was absolutely fantastic when I emailed her about it and replaced my bottle with five-star service! I was so impressed! Her shop has the most beautiful home decor bits and pieces and is well worth a visit! Very happy customer! Will definitely shop there again. :)

Romantiques

If you are looking for a unique experience you should certainly include Romantiques in your itinerary. You will find the extensive array of antiques and memorabilia fascinating and all are displayed in a picturesque setting in an old property in the heart of the town. If you are looking for militaria, vintage toys, china and silverware, vintage clothing and everything in between, you won’t be disappointed. Children will be fascinated by the various items, many of which they will only have read about. There is plenty of on-site parking and card facilities are available if you find something you simply must have. Set aside a couple of hours to enjoy the setting and indulge in a cup of coffee or play the vintage pin ball machines.

We stumbled upon this shop on our visit to Hermanus, and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Its like stepping into the past, with rooms dedicated to various themes such a military memorabilia, victorian clothing, vintage toys and tea sets and so much more. We ended up spending nearly two hours there, finishing up with a few games of old fashioned pin ball machine which was such fun. Do yourself a favour, stop by for a visit when you are in the area, you won't be dissapointed.

More like a small museum in which you can touch items, this antiquarian book shop and art gallery contains rare and interesting items many of cultural and historic significance. As a result this shop is well worth a visit. I wish I could have spent a lot more time here and purchased something I could have brought home to Australia.
