It is the administrative center of Zhytomyr Oblast (province), as well as the administrative center of the surrounding Zhytomyr Raion (district). The city of Zhytomyr is not a part of Zhytomyr Raion: the city itself is designated as its own separate raion within the oblast; moreover Zhytomyr consists of two so-called "raions in a city": Bohunskyi Raion and Koroliovskyi Raion (named in honour of Sergey Korolyov). Zhytomyr occupies an area of 65 square kilometres (25 square miles). Its population is 266 936.

My group stayed at the Reikartz Zhytomyr for one night. The guide said there was a spot that was also Italian/Ukrainian ten minutes away or one could eat in the hotel which also had good food. Happily opted to eat here. We were told the restaurant had a very good chef. That usually translates to smaller portions which was the case for my risotto with mussels. It was nevertheless very tasty with ample cheese and three mussels. The others had thin crust pizza for main courses. Must note the excellent visual of the presentation of the borscht soup. It was served on a board with slices of lard, sour cream and a horseradish mustard. Had a berry sorbet and a cappuccino to finish the meal. Along with a large draft, the entire meal cost just $8 US. Our waiter Artur was first rate, giving the occasional heads up on the timing of various courses.

One evening we decided to try Mario's Italian restaurant. We ordered Cesar Salad, a Pizza and Ravioli. The atmosphere is very nice, staff are very friendly and very professional. Like everything in Ukraine, prices are very very cheap, offcourse this is a more upscale restaurant than others around Zhytomyr so the price would be a little bit more expensive but still very cheap compared to other countries. 6 of us dined with a meal each, deserts, starters and lots of drinks and it worked out around £40The portions for the pasta are not too big, but presented really well and was worth every penny.I would recommend Mario's to anyone who is visiting Zhytomyr. It is a great family restaurant.

Quick service, tables are small, great prices. We ordered five different types of varenyki and it was enough for four of us to share for dinner. Our favorites were the mushroom filling and the cherry filling. Try the smoked apple juice for something completely different!

This place is amazing! It was so good, we ate here twice during our travels from Kyiv to Lviv. Comfortable seating, friendly staff and delicious food is everything you will find here.The pickle platter appetizer is delicious! The pickles are so fresh and not marinated with vinegar; so, the taste is quite different than an American pickle, but they are oh, so delicious. The pickled cabbage does not taste like you would think either; it is not like sauerkraut. It is more like fresh coleslaw.The chicken, steak, and any other meat you choose is grilled to perfection. My favorite were the grilled veggies. Oh my. Delicious! We also tried a little dessert. They didnât have our first choice; so, we tried the little mouse cake. Little is the operative word. Lol! Yet, it does pack a little punch. It was yummy; although, itâs probably not my favorite.I also ordered a non-alcoholic Mohito, and it was delicious! It has lemon, lime, mint and ginger, I think. A creative presentation and very tasty.
