Cool and Comfy Place to Stay
Reviewed By deanosaur89This place has great value, the rooms are comfy and there are lots of cool places to hang out. The Hump Hostel is located on the third floor of a building in the old town area and has a couple rooftop patios, a restaurant/bar and a billiards table. The WWII decor was unexpected for us as we weren't aware of the history of Kunming but we were very interested to learn more of the war efforts made in Kunming. The food at the restaurant was hit or miss but the breakfast is included with the stay. For the western breakfast the two days I had it there was one sunny side up egg, a small salad, two waffle pieces and some fruit - the first day I had it everything was cold and the second day the waffles were fresh. My wife ordered the Chinese breakfast and the first day it was bland congee but the second day she had breakfast she had a flavourful noodle soup. The cocktails were very good and were decent value at 48 RMB each. You can pretty much get anything you want but they do have a couple specialty cocktails like the golden horse (whiskey) and the hump (Pink grapefruit based) cocktails which we really liked. The bar area is lively at night with live music, a good patio and nice big tables throughout. Some of the food in the evening looked pretty good too. We got a standard room with two twin beds. The beds were very comfy and the AC was more than enough. The bathroom was nice but we found the hot water was a little spotty and could be perfect one second and scalding the next! The bathroom needed a little maintenance as it was a little dirty in the corners and the toilet needed to be resecured at the base. They have a couple big sink and shower areas and they have a laundry room. The hostel doesn't have much sound proofing on the windows so we heard quite a bit of noise like shouting in the mornings. For the price we paid we were fine with it and still had a good sleep. The closest metro is Tanzixiang which is about a 15 minute walk. There is lots of construction in the area or July 2021 so there are a few long walkarounds in the area but the sidewalk from the Tanzixiang station is pretty good. The hostel is also very close to Kunming train station for high speed trains. Loved our stay here and would recommend to friends staying in Kunming.

Friendly staff, damp rooms
Reviewed By Darren TBooked through Booking.com in advance: As a family of 4 we stayed in 3 different rooms. The rooms were all damp, but myself and son were in a tiny room we nicknamed 'the hovel'. It was dirty, dingy and very damp, room 103, avoid like the plague. Peaceful rooftop terrace, pleasant during the day, noisy at night due to parties in the neighbouring restaurant.

Budget but cozy
Reviewed By marsha1122Pros: located outside north gate, walking distace 5 min to old town, 10mins to four square and the water wheel. 20 mins to black dragon pool. Local food and souvenirs more cheaper than Dali. Helpful and friendly host. Cons: Hilly place. But still okay because the owner helped us carried the luggages.

Reviewed By sh0valsStaff were very helpful. They also speak english. The room was very clean and pleasantly designed ? Nice atmosphere. There are a lot of Chinese travelers there. Most of the food in the bar was very good.

Knowledgeable staff and a good place to meet people
Reviewed By Darren TVery good place to stay near the central area. Clean rooms which are cleaned everyday with lots of different accommodation options. I stayed with a family of two adults and two children in two twin rooms. There is a restaurant onsite which was not always open but good for coffee, breakfast and snacks.

Nice and spacious hotel with great staff
Reviewed By Normilan07We stayed there for 2 nights. Since first, they have staff picking our bags to hotel. Hotel is located in the old city area so you can walk around in reachable distance. Our trip was in wintertime so it’s really cold upthere. Tibetan-style building was not well warm inside but they gave us electric blanket so I can sleep all night warmly in bed. Staff was very active and friendly, promtly gave advices I wanted to know.

Well fitted with various entertaining facilities, the setting boasts comfortable accommodation. With typical Tibetan touches, each of the rooms are cleanly arranged and abundant in natural light. Slippers are offered in the bathroom.
A charming stay.
Reviewed By Josh FI absolutely adored the Desti Youth Park. It has friendly staff and even friendlier Golden Retrievers to greet you. The room style has a rustic charm and the cafe is adorably quaint as well. They have a little auditorium and they were playing My Neighbor Totoro on a projector when I arrived. They were also very wonderful helping get to nearby attractions. All in all a great stay.

This charming guesthouse is located in the Old Town, 200 meters from the East Gate with big traditional style coutyard. The area is quiet and close to everything (bicycle renting,restaurants etc.) The French own is very friendly.Three types of bedrooms are available: traditional chinese, Korean, Japanese.Free Wifi in every room. Western breakfast is provided, as well as coffee and snacks all day.

Reviewed By Jason YThe house is nice and neat and offers night activities. The travellers can well communicate and exchange info for their visits. The host is friendly and helpful as well. The place is a bit hard to find though, a navigation might be necessary.
