Evaskori

This was a great pizza place, but the size was way too big; my friend couldn't finish half of it. The service was nice and the restaurant was the first to open for lunch in Äkäslompolo center. I would go again.

Restaurant Otso Akaslompolo

I have visited twice with my husband within 2 weeks period as the food was great. We had reindeer fajitas, reindeer shank, sauteed reindeer and a fish dish... everything was very tasty, service was fantastic.... deco is really nice and overall very nice atmosphere...
Garlic bread is more of a garlic with a bread than other way round so you realky have to like garlic to be able to eat it ;) but I love garlic so it was perfect for me but a bit strong for my husband....
Not to expensive for Finland standards fir 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 beers and 2 large glasses of wine it was just 100 Euro.
I would highly recommend this restaurant

Poro

Reviewed By pomeranianlovah - Los Angeles

This restaurant is literally a stroll away from the cabins in Teerentie. It's accessible on foot, but if you're too lazy to walk in the snow, you can contact Annen Taksi and have them drop you off. The waiters can call a taxi for you to bring you back to your lodging once you're done with your food. If you don't know how to get there, ask the locals (especially at Fun with Santa, one of the employees there is related to Poro's owner).
PRICE: This place is on the expensive side. This is because they source their meats and breads locally. Everything is prepared fresh on the day itself, and they spare no expense making sure that what they serve is organic and pesticide-free. We shelled out an average of 100 euros for a family of three both times we ate there. However, we feel like we got our money's worth.
TASTE: The food is fantastic. Everything we ordered tasted great --- with the exception of the chocolate cake, which was dry and not at all moist. Thankfully that dessert had ice cream on the side to mitigate it somewhat. But they have exotic dishes like pork chop with reindeer mousse inside, that was absolutely divine. It was unlike anything I had ever tasted in my life. The arctic char is seared salmon, which was delicate but flavorful. The way they prepare their vegetables is also great, because they cook them minimally, allowing all the flavors to come out on your tastebuds. My husband's favorite was the bear stew appetizer --- I personally didn't like this because it tasted slightly livery and mineral-like, with a beef taste at the end. It was, I admit, very unique though, so I would order it again just for the experience of tasting it. The reindeer steak was exquisite -- tender, juicy, seared on the outside, and melt-in-your-mouth perfect.
RESERVATIONS: I suggest making a reservation before you go, even if it is on the day itself. They have only around seven tables, and the restaurant fills up quickly. Everyone knows that this is the coolest restaurant in the area, so people make a beeline for it.
LANGUAGE: Most of the servers speak English really well, so there's no confusion about what it is exactly you are ordering. What is helpful also is that the menu is in both Finnish and English -- so you know what you're ordering, and how much you are paying for it.
WAITSTAFF: They were all lovely and took their time with us. We had no idea what reindeer or elk or bear tasted like, so they did everything they could to describe the dishes with as much accuracy as they could. We didn't feel rushed into ordering anything. Our server made sure that she recommended items suited to our preferences, and we appreciated that a lot.
DECOR: Everything is done in the traditional Lappish way. The main lighting fixture is creatively made of shedded reindeer antlers (as they shed their horns every year or so to make room for growing antlers). You'll see traditional Lappish wear displayed on the walls as well. It is minimalist, which serves the purpose well, because what you want to stand out is the food.
GIFT STORE: Attached to the restaurant is a gift and souvenir shop in the back. It has mostly stuffed animals like reindeer and Huskies, but it also has little tsotchkes like postcards, picture frames, photos of the Aurora Borealis and the like. They are rather expensive, but they have a clearance rack that you can peruse.
UNIQUENESS: I would say Poro did a splendid job of incorporating Lappish food culture into their menu. They had items like a vodka drink with cloudberries, a fruit that is unique to Lapland, I believe. They also had panna cotta with cloudberries --- a nice twist on an old classic. That was worth the price they charge, in my opinion.
All in all, I give Poro 5 stars! I would go back in a heartbeat if I could. It is an amazing restaurant with a visionary chef.

Nice laid back atmosphere. For our first visit we enjoyed excellent and very friendly & smooth customer service - the food followed the same line of quality. For our second visit all was well but maybe the touch of excellence for customer service was not there. The meals again worked very well.
Extra points for gluten free pizza.

Pihvikeisari

Reviewed By Kristiina A - Helsinki, Finland

We found the restaurant Sarakka from a local newspaper. Go there! The place is situated next to the beef restaurant "Pihvikeisari". The restaurant is like a Laplander's hut ("Kota") and serves first-class local food.
The buffet is on offer every evening. Don't eat a lot beforehand so that you can taste and savour everything that's on offer.
The kitchen uses locally sourced food - rabbits, trout, bear, whitefish (from the nearby lake), mushrooms and berries from the local Forests etc.
The selection is abundant and really tasty! Service was impeccable and most friendly.
The only thing that could be improved was the music - rather than international pop music I think that Finnish songs would be more suitable and the lighting which could have been a bit dimmer to make the atmosphere cozier.

Yllas Saaga

Reviewed By Rebecca K - Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom

We enjoyed a late afternoon dinner/bar snack during our first day (following an extremely early flight) in Yllas. Both my husband and I had the burger (tasty, well cooked....slightly pink). Our daughters had cheese toasties and fries. Cheese toasties were adapted for them by removing the ham and replacing with tomato. This was no problem for them at all. My girls are fussy and thought there was a bit too much cheese, but that is just them!!
The fries were a side order for €5... but we're huge!!!
Would certainly return for a fuss free, no frills easy dinner.

We arrived midday so needed lunch. Walked down to towards the supermarket and Pub Selva served food so we went inside.
Menu in English [fortunately] as well as Finnish. Friendly English speaking barman.
Good pub food arrived quickly brought by a friendly waitress.
Tasty hot chocolate.
Recommended if you are self catering and want to eat out for a change or want a hot chocolate after skiing.

Humina offers delicious Nordic dishes in a rustic atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and made us feel home. The salmon soup was excellent as were various dishes (desserts) with local berries. The reindeer dish was slightly overcooked and the portion size very large. The only disappointing item on the menu was the espresso which tasted a bit like a small cup of filter coffee.

Restaurant Tower

Reviewed By Horst S - Lauchringen, Germany

... which means that you must be prepared to wait.
The food they offer is good, the prices are acceptable (considering you are in Finland). But the problem is that it is very popular and therefore you must be prepared to wait as the kitchen is almost always working at capacity. However, as you are on holiday, when you come here, you should just relax and enjoy your meal when you get it.
Making a reservation before you go is certainly a good idea.
