Quaint family run hotel!

This little BnB on the edge of Worgl was definitely worth the stop! Our room was modestly furnished, but very comfortable. (a full sized hairdryer too!) Comfortable beds, a decent sized shower, fresh linens and towels. The breakfast was nice. Easy access to the town and nearby villages. Family run, so there are kids around. The 'bar' part of the restaurant seems to be a stop for locals as well. Clean, tidy, and comfortable.

Average food !

Didn’t stay in this hotel but stop for lunch. Friendly waiters trying to help. Beware of the food quantity... small portion of soup could be a large portion of soup in Asia! The food quality is average and rather salty. Ordered the seafood soup with garlic bread, fried bread fish soup which is large for one person! Ordered spaghetti with shrimp, the spaghetti is rather hard. Pizza mags it’s is ok but salty! Ordered the cordon Bleu which is the bacon and cheese but the translation showed monk fish, mussel and risotto! What a vast difference in translation! Expected the waiter would do something to make up but just said sorry.

Something not quite right

Reviewed By Stephalonia

My husband and I have just spent 8 nights at the Gasthof Wildschoenauer Bahnhof. Things didn't get off to the best start when we arrived around 7.00 pm on Friday evening. On arrival, there is no reception desk, so it's a little disconcerting as to where to go. We were intercepted in the entrance passage by a waitress (turned out to be the owner's wife) as she took some drinks to customers outside. She went to fetch the owner, who was otherwise engaged and eventually came back saying (in German - which I speak) "You're here for one night". I corrected her to "no for 8 nights actually". "I've been mis-informed" she replied. Perhaps you can understand why I had some concerns. She pointed out the breakfast room and took us to our room. It was clean and basic. You will need to take your own toiletries as there are none provided - not even a scrap of soap, and understandably no hairdrier. On checking out the bathroom (decent fittings) I noticed that the net curtain had fallen from the window as the sticky pads holding its rail to the window frame had come unstuck. I stuck it back again, but within minutes it fell down. As the glass in the bathroom window is plain and there are other properties overlooking, we resorted to using a towel draped over the window to give a modicum of privacy. We (wrongly) presumed that this would be fixed the next day. Nope - the towel had been removed but the net curtain remained on the windowsill! This continued for a couple of days until I wrote a note explaining why we like a towelling curtain! I had taken a couple of bathsheets with me. Just as well, as we only had one replacement towel during out 8 days. This was due to me deliberately mopping up the shower with it so it was sopping wet! We did eat at the Gasthof a few evenings, but please be aware that unlike in the UK, in Austria smoking is still permitted in dining areas and as this is a gasthof, the dining area is within the bar. This is a very popular place for the local chaps so most evenings the bar is busy with drinkers. The breakfast room is no smoking but we were never given the option of taking dinner in there. The food on offer was really good. As we didn't have breakfast until 8.15, we generally didn't see any staff. One lady who we did see a couple of mornings was lovely - really friendly and helpful. So the days and evenings passed until the night before we were due to leave. We had an early train to catch, so I thought it might be a good idea to settle the bill that evening. I was amazed to find the owner at 20.40 on Friday evening (when he's the main chef) sitting in his den watching TV while the bar was buzzing. I offered to pay the bill, but he wasn't interested and said to leave it until breakfast. Needless to say, on the morning of our departure, whilst the lovely lady had a verbal bill for us, she wasn't familiar with using the credit card machine, so had to call the owner! In conclusion, the Wildschonauer Bahnhof provides basic bed and breakfast - no frills - which is what I expected. It cost me 76 Euros per night and I'm not convinced that it's really worth that much! I did not expect the total lack of a welcome or interest in our comfort during our stay. I'm not sure whether this was because we were English, but as I mentioned before I do speak German. I would also add that from the initial booking I had problems communicating by e-mail. Using the e-mail address on the gasthof's website, my final e-mail sent a couple of days before we set off, was rejected as 'undelivered'.

I stayed here for a ski trip with my school and it didn’t feel like a hotel. The front door was smashed which instantly put us on edge. The food is really underwhelming and disappointing. The rooms are dirty and some key appliances are broken. The hospitality was so poor that they put 6 people in a 2 Person room, it was just mattresses on the floor as they had overbooked.all of the camp beds were not sturdy so they broke easily which left some people without a bed. We had to book another hotel for the rest of our weekly stay in Austria as we only stayed for one night. Please don’t book here
