Ate at La Casa de Don David our last night in El Remate. A healthy walk up from Mon Ami but it was a beautiful star-filled sky with an almost new moon. At times, seemed like more of a military compound than hotel but once inside, all was pleasant an cordial. Great service, Terrific seat overlooking the interior pond with large tree. In middle of our tasty meal of local favorites accompanied by an adult beverage or three, the tree suddenly became lit with blue decorative lights. Great surprise that, but it was followed by a ziplined cooler zipping in from the rooms on other side of compound (which seemed very isolated but well-protected) filled with empty bottles beer, empty dishes, utensils it appeared. I thought that this style "Room Service" was rather cool. And wondered what they could send, and who were receiving. In any case, had a party of Brits next to us celebrating a daughter's birthday and it all seemed quite proper. Al-In-All, reasonable priced and a fine value especially the view.

We had the box lunch- decent enough ham and cheese sandwich, banana and water. There are a range of brekfasts- pancakes and omelette were good. One cappuccino was good, the next day a bit milky. Friendly service. We would like to thank you for your visit to La Piazza. It was truly a pleasure to serve you. Thank you for your additional comment about to improve our cappuccino. We look forward to seeing you again hopefully, in the near future. Please let us know if there is anything you need on your next visit to Tikal area. Best regards,

Short drive near Tikal park where the food is fabulous. They offer local fare as well as hamburgers. I ate the special and it had a value sized portion that left me stuffed. The place has a wonderful cafe feel with a wonderful and attentive staff. The chef himself checks to ensure you are happy with your order. Well worth stopping after working up an appetite at Tikal and as mentioned before value priced.

We almost gave up the search for this tiny spot, after several wrong turns and not believing it could be at the end of a quiet residential street. But it is! Continue past the Pedro Hermano Hostel about 100 yards to the end of the pavement. On your right there will be a tiny sign for "Una Casita" outside of a bamboo gate. Elly will let you in and make you right at home at his patio restaurant that is adjacent to the solar-powered open-air house he has built himself. Fresh tamarind juice arrived quickly and when we just asked for something vegetarian he went right to work. When our meal arrived, it exceeded our expectations! Fresh, flavorful, huge variety of vegetables, several different dishes, all very tasty. It was served with a SUPER spicy pickled pepper blend that was also great. After the delicious meal our host built a fire in his fire pit and invited us to sit with him and get acquainted. It was far and away the most personal and memorable evening we had on the entire trip. And the price was very reasonable: 60 Quetzales (< $10) all told. If you are in El Remate, go to Una Casita!
