It lies at the western foot of Mount Vesuvius, on the Bay of Naples, just southeast of the city of Naples. The medieval town of Resina - read Resìna - was built on the volcanic material left by the eruption of Vesuvius (79 CE) that destroyed the ancient city of Herculaneum, from which the present name is derived. Ercolano is a resort and the starting point for excursions to the excavations of Herculaneum and for the ascent of Vesuvius by bus. The town also manufactures leather goods, buttons, glass, and the wine known as Lacryma Christi (Tears of Christ).

My husband and I are at Il Veliero due it's proximity to the Torre del Greco Circolo Nautico, where we were keeping our boat. What a lovely surprise to find such delicious food in the neighbourhood. The frutti di mare soute, croouquettes, pasta and zuppa di fagioli...all were wonderful. Very good service and a friendly atmosphere, for a reasonable price. Would highly recommend.

If you're visiting Naples or Ercolano, take the chance to have a meal here. Though not so visible or impressive from outside, the inside atmosphere is very pleasant, so much Napoli-polite-style.It offers excellent cuisine and wine selection. Fish is very good. However, it's probably not the cheapest site for a lunch or dinner.

We ate here twice and both times received fabulous service with excellent well prepared and ample portioned meals. We would happily recommend anyone to eat here at anytime.

Had a lunch in this seafood restaurant. Service was rude and we waited quite long for the food to come. Food was great, though. I'm not into seafood myself, so they prepared excellent veal for me. Others' seafood were also really nice. A bit expensive for the area, but apparently a high class restaurant on local scale.
