Apero Fish Palace

We decided to go to this restaurant, because previously we were there and took only a plate of seafood. It was normal, such as should be in the port city. Apparently, this saved us from the frustration at that time. Nevertheless, this time we were not lucky. We are restaurateurs, we are running our family restaurant, and we respect our clients, we never give them spoiled food. Also we know how fresh fish should look and smell. Salmon tartare was made from fish waste, it was impossible to eat it. May be for pigs only. We assumed that it should be made from the freshest salmon fillet. Sorry, but not here! OK, we were promised not to include it into the bill. For the main course, we have ordered Bouillabaisse and grilled salmon. What is the real Bouillabaisse, probably everyone knows. But not the chef of this restaurant. All rotten fish, which were in this restaurant were disguised in this “soup”. It could be hard to feel sometimes, because in the soup you can mask the bad product with spices and herbs. But we felt, told about this to the waiter and asked if it is possible to cancel the order of the grilled salmon, because we were afraid that the salmon would be stale too. But they refused to us. So, the miracle did not happen. The salmon was cooked as a medium, and the smell of fusty fish was distinctly felt. We set the plate aside without touching it. And so strange! Nobody comes up to us… 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes ... Sorry, Sirs, this is the golden rule of the restaurant business - if the client is not satisfied, go up and resolve the issue immediately! Moreover, it must be solved by following another rule of a good service - “The customer is always right”.We called the waiter, explained the situation, he went with a plate to the kitchen. Then an not quite adequate woman came from the kitchen, said that she is a chef and all her fish is fresh, and she is not going to discuss it with us, “now you must pay and get out of the restaurant” – She told. Apparently, it means that for three of us it is just "seems" that the fish was rotten. We never write reviews befor because we usually speak with our colleagues in the professional way. But not this time... It’s a shame! Rotten fish in a restaurant with high traffic! But the most frustrating is a reaction of the restaurant employee to the remark of customers. Unacceptable for people working in the service sector.

The old town of St Malo is divine. It has many restaurants to pick from with muscles being the feature of every menu. The rampart is a must to walk around and the views are really pretty even on a cloudy day. I would definitely rate this as a great place to visit - id even suggest you stay a night

We went for dinner on a weekday evening in the winter, and there were four tables occupied. The restaurant had a modern decor but was warm and inviting. The two highlights were the beautiful sea food and the excellent, helpful and friendly service. We informed the restaurant in advance that one of our party had a mobility problem, and the restaurant arranged a special table for us still in a great spot by the window. Many thanks!

Nice restaurant with very friendly owners and staff. The set menus are very reasonable: 35€ for two appetizers (of which the fish soup was outstanding), a starter (I had two homemade delicious shrimp croquettes), a soup or sorbet , for mains I chose the Dover sole with fresh fries and homemade mayo, and desert. Nice wine list, mainly french, correctly priced.

Othello

Reviewed By DanielleH681

Wanting to take pictures of the magnificent sunset on Ostend’s waterfront, we diverted from our usual route of turning right onto the promenade and turned left instead, towards the sun. We were looking for somewhere to eat and found this charming little restaurant called Othello. We were given some very tasty tapenade and fresh bread as a taster to begin with, as standard to have with our drinks. Then onto the starter. To say that the scallops I had were the most delicious and tender I’ve ever had would be an understatement. They were utterly superb. We then went onto mussels in white wine for me, and beef for my husband. The mussels were divine, and my husband reports that the meat was really tender and tasty.Dessert was Creme Brûlée for him and ice cream for me. Both absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend this restaurant. It would be advisable to book ahead. We had not booked, and they did accommodate us, but it was full. An absolute gem of a find and we would come again. It is pricey, but we don’t mind paying for quality. For drinks and three courses each the bill amounted to about €120.00.The service was good too and the owners very attentive. Given that the position of the restaurant is a little bit away from the main thoroughfare, it was full nevertheless, and worthy of walking just that little but further west to find it. There is a step up from the pavement, but if someone were being pushed in a wheelchair I think the wheelchair could be lifted up the step. One couple had a little dog with them who had its own seat. They allow well behaved dogs into restaurants in Belgium. Not sure if they all do, but I’ve noticed a number of them seem to allow it.
