Beautiful location near the harbour with a fantastic kids play park outside the front entrance. The service was excellent and helpful for gluten free recommendations. We ordered lunchtime snacks which were delicious. All in all, good value for money and I would definitely recommend.

Restaurette Schierzicht

Restaurette Schierzicht is a family owned business. The harbour played a big role in in the history of the company as this is where the fish initially came from. Today Lauwersoog is on the border of a National Park called 'Lauwersmeer' and the world Herit

Situated direct at the harbour and near to the ferry to Schiermonnikoog, this is a quick eat restaurant. The food was tasty and the service was quick. The prices for small snacks were reasonable but the menus were pricey. The large room felt more like a cantine than a restaurant but it is fine for a quick, good meal.

The restaurant is at a great location, between the harbour and the sea. You can enjoy both views from within the restaurant. On the sea side you can see the ship's coming in.The food is okay, but could do with less saus. The bread is very fresh and the fish soup is a killer! I really enjoyed that soup. There is a small kids area, but not a lot of toys.

Located on a windswept harbour (well that day anyway!) we dropped in for a snack, and to buy some fresh fish to take home. The menu is limited to whatever the boats have recently brought in, but the selection was fairly good, both in the (self serve) restaurant and fish counter. There was a nice selection of North Sea fish species, nicely filleted/prepared, pan ready to take home. We dallied for a couple of portions of Kibbeling (deep fried cod pieces), nicely seasoned, and served with a very mediocre tartat sauce. They also offer cold soft drinks and beer, which washed the fish down nicely. This is not a goumet experience, but a nice warm up and snack opportunity after a blustery walk along the dijk!

't Ailand

I'm citing the slogan of a famous Rotterdam fish shop, which very well summarizes the core business of 't Ailand (island). Opening hours are limited, but can be retrieved from the - extremely slowly working - website. True, most fishermen are not whizzkids. But "fishkids" they will be, certainly Friday after 3pm, when the fresh catch is brought in. We came in for a sandwich with warm-smoked salmon, which was OK. The espresso was surprisingly good - not what you typically get in Dutch fishers' ports!

After a short stop in Groningen we arrived on the holiday park near the Lauwersmeer in the North of The Netherlands. The family would arrive the next day, so we had some time for ourselves. The temperature was great and we walked in the evening sun on the dike along the water of the lake. A storm had been predicted so yachts were coming in at the marina. We entered the restaurant and immediately felt the friendly atmosphere. Because of the weather forecast we took a table inside in the conservatory aside the grapes. The menu offered some nice dishes and also the wine list presented a good selection of, mostly Spanish, wines. As a starter we choose the local scrimps and they were very tasty. For the main course my wife took the Tiger Prawns from the grill and I took fish. All was accompanied by a nice variety of vegetables, French fries and baked potatoes. The bottle of Torres white wine appeared to be good company. Clouds concealed the sky so we missed the sunset but we enjoyed the meal and didn’t mind. Afterwards the storm just missed our area and it became an easy walk back to the park.A few days later we came back with 4 persons. Again the food and service were great.
