Ballyvaughan or Ballyvaghan (Irish: Baile Uí Bheacháin, meaning "Ó Beachán's townland") is a small harbour village in County Clare, Ireland. It is located on the N67 road on the south shores of Galway Bay, in the northwest corner of The Burren. This position on the coast road and the close proximity to many of the area's sights has turned the village into a local center of tourism activity. At the time of the 2011 Census Ballyvaughan had a population of 258. The area was officially classified as part of the West Clare Gaeltacht, an Irish-speaking community, until 1956.

O'Donohue's Pub

We dropped into O’Donoghues last Sunday with my Mexican daughter-in-law, on the day of the Mexico v Germany World Cup match. We particularly chose this pub because we had heard great reviews about the food and were thrilled to see a Mexican flag flying from the upstairs window. The pub was full of locals watching the Clare/ Limerick hurling match and the atmosphere was electric. The Barman / ? Owner greeted us warmly and on enquiring if the Mexican match would be shown told us he would put it on after the hurling. He joked with my daughter in law, telling her his wife was from Mexico, hence the flag!! With half an hour to spare before the match we ordered food and drinks which were top notch. As there were 2 TVs in the pub, lounge and bar, we had no worries about seeing match, particularly as the lounge was empty apart from 2 customers. With minutes to kick off we ordered desert and coffees. No sign of either tv being switched. We were then told they were not showing the match and had to beat a hasty retreat to Lisdoonvarna with my frantic Daughter in law. I realize this was neither life nor death but think it was very poor form and downright unwelcoming. A little honesty from the start would have been appreciated. Thankfully Mexico beat Germany!!!

O'Donohue's Pub

An absolutely incredible pub on the Coastal Road in Fanore, Ireland. The food is out of this world for pub food. Beautiful, artistic, inexpensive and of the highest quality. We had better food there than we did at several high end restaurants in Dingle. P

We visited O'Donohue's on the coastal road from Fanore after spending the morning on Fanore beach. We were served various dishes which satisfied hungry palates. The outstanding dish was "Pan-Fried Fresh Cod " served with mussels, crab claws and prawns plus a bed of Mash Potatoes with other vegetables. The dish was outstanding.

Had dinner here twice and the food made us come a second time. Beautiful cozy restaurant and amazing black pudding appetizer. Beef and lamb from the family farm and overall good clean farm food. Both times certain items listed not available and second time no one went over specials. The big downfall of the restaurant was the Mediocre service, efficient but not warm or welcoming. Still would come back for the good local cuisine. Hello Pam.Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. It is very important to us as it shows what we are doing right and more importantly where we can improve. I am very sorry that you were dissapointed with the service but please be assured that we will be taking steps to remedy this and to avoid a re-occurance in the future.Kind RegardsPaul

We expected a pub dinner and instead received a beautiful dinner which was prepared with care. The seafood chowder was excellent. On this trip through Ireland we have made a game of comparing chowders, and Monk’s ranks up there with the top. The most happy surprise was my goat cheese tart, made with locally sourced goat cheese and boasting a homemade pastry shell. Pub? Not at all! The serving staff, by the way, was friendly (in contrast to a few previous reviews).
