We had supper at El Cactus in November with friends, just before our trip to Mexico and we were quite impressed by this little restaurant that seems like nothing from the outside. The food was good and authentic. The setting is great, they even have a nice terrasse by the water, of course it was too cold but we are going to go back next summer for sure to try the terrasse. I have to admit the service was a little slow, we waited a long time to even get a waiter, then we waited quite a while for our drinks, after it seemed to pick up a bit. The servers seemed pretty young and a little disorganised, the parking is not always easy in that area, especially on week end nights. It's really the only two negative comments I have, and I certainly would recommend this restaurant, great atmosphere, reasonable price...charming place all together.

New location, roomier. Offers good Mexican food, drinks (alcoholic), outdoor eating, as well as indoors. A little Mexican dancing and singing every half-hour followed by an announcement of a 15 minute special (ex: cheaper beer). Fairly noisy. Friendly and efficient.

We had a reservation and from the beginning, we kind of felt unwelcome. Then when we asked questions about the menu, first the waitress could not understand our questions or could she respond to them. We finally understood that fajitas did not include much besides rice and beans (what???) and the were way over priced. This is Chateauguay, besides the Indian reserve when you can eat like in a 4 star restaurants at very reasonable prices. Plus this is the 3 rd Mexican restaurant in our little town. So we decided to leave but be polite about it and explain to what seemed to be a manager at the bar (a lady)- and then, she showed me the door. I am 64 years old and this never ever happened to me in my life. I was very polite and thought I was doing the a service by explaining why we decided to go somewhere else. Oh well, I wish them good luck- usually, that type of restaurant lasts one year, just enough time to the town to try it and not go back an then.....
