We really need to wait for long time to reach the food in this restaurant.
Many people may think the Udon should not be something special, but I have to say this udon is very special.
Noodle, soup, egg and other ingredients are very delicious which deserves to try once.

The way to the Oden Bar is a bit complicated.
There are no seats and you stand in front of the table.
You can order the set of Oden and a drink i.e. alcohol, and you enjoy eating it on outside table.
Strongly recommended on a cold evening in Tokyo.

Moko Tanmen Nakamoto Kamiitabashi Honten

Reviewed By momo158 - Tokyo, Japan

Moko tanmen Nakamoto is the Chinese noodle shop whose head store is in Itabashi Ward in Tokyo. The branch shops are in Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Shibuya and so on. If you like spicy foods, you will be hooked on Nakamoto’s foods. The shop is vital. The cooks and the service staffs are spirited. Many people often line in front of the shop, so you should prepare for waiting. The most popular food is the moko tanmen. It is the Chinese noodle seasoned with miso with very spicy mapo tofu. The mapo tofu is the bean curd with minced pork chili sauce. The moko tanmen which has the smell of rich miso is so hot, but it is yummy and savoury. It has also many veggies, so you will feel not only spiciness but also sweetness. Moreover you will feel fullness after eating it. The price of the moko tanmen is 770 yen. Nakamoto has some non-spicy foods. For example, a tanmen (730 yen) and a soy sauce ramen (730 yen). The tanmen is the Chinese noodle seasoned with salt. It has many veggies and it is bland and healthy. I recommend Nakamoto to especially young men because every foods are hearty.

Marumasuya

Reviewed By WendyWindow - London

We are always scouting for local food experiences in non-michelin star restaurants (my husband wont eat anywhere where they put 'foam' on his plate) and this one was a winner.
This restaurant was recommended to us via a friend who was taken there by a local Japanese colleague.
It is located in the non-touristy neighbourhood of Akabane in an area interesting and nice to walk about and watch everyday life go by.
The restaurant is 100% traditional and an authentic experience not to be missed. The house speciality is broiled eels. They taste as if they were basted in a sweetened marinade and then grilled over coals and served on rice. You can choose the size of your portion. The small size is more than enough for one person. We insisted on sitting downstairs in the tapas bar counter type area to soak up the atmosphere. Westerners are welcomed. Limited English spoken but you'll get by.

Mutekiya

Reviewed By Eat-Ate-Type - Miami, Florida

November 2017 Twice
Since this place was quite close to the Ikebukuro Station I decided to give it a visit. Went after lunch hours, but had to wait in line for about 15 minutes or so. They have menus in multiple languages that also recommend items for first-timers which was quite nice. Also, you may ask for a Large serving of noodles for no extra charge, definitely a plus.
(2nd Visit) Early dinner, about 10 minutes in line.
Mutekiya Ramen: Most balanced tonkotsu broth I've had, personally. Not overly salty, oily, or porky the flavors melded well together to create a delectable broth.
Noodles: Perfectly al dente, excellent.
Char siu: Three thick cuts of char siu. I like the big cuts, but the flavor wasn't impressive. Too sweet. Although the Yuzu Pepper was a nice touch.
(2nd Visit)
Hontoro Tokumarumen: A richer version of Mutekiya Ramen. Tasted good, but I've had better rich tonkatsu ramen.
Overall: I loved the ramen here. The print on the nori to welcome customers was cute.
(2nd Visit) Prefer Mutekiya Ramen over Hontoro Tokumarumen. I'd suggest getting the former unless you prefer a richer broth.
Would I go back? The next time I'm back in Ikebukuro. Definitely want to try their other ramens.
Do I recommend this place? Simple, yes.

This cosy little burger/sandwich bar is close to Kami-Itabashi Station on the Tobu Tojo line. Only a few vegetarian sandwiches but absolutely delicious. Fresh fillings with excellent sauces. (Mine had a great salsa.) Burgers also looked amazing. Of course, the service was superb (as it usually is in Japan).
