Had a lunch at the restaurant while visiting the beautiful old town of Stein am Rhein. The service was very friendly and fast, the food and the beer - delicious. It is right in the central square of the old town, and couple of minutes walk to the river. Would gladly go back again.

The BADSTUBE Restaurant Cafe Winehouse is a medieval house that dates back to 1434, when it was the first bathouse mentioned in the kanton of Schaffhausen - it is in the tradition of these bathouses that the decoration of the main restaurant is made - on first floor the Dampferstube is decorated with original artefacts of the steamboat Schaffhausen, that was used to transport tourists from 1903 until 1965 on the upper rhineriver. The "No E Wili - Stube" is decorated with a woodcarving that shows a part of the "No E Wili - Saga" as well as "St. Georg" Stein am Rhein's emblem-figur. On the west side of the medieval house is a terrasse that overlooks the rhine river and gives incredible sunset panoramas - on the south side of the house the little and romantic "Hexehofli" is a sourronded court that has it's very own ancient touch. The Cusine of the BADSTUBE is fresh, traditional, swiss sweetwaterfish, Swiss Gourmet Beef Grand Cru Meet as well as regional and seasonal fresh variety of vegetables and specalities including Onion Tart and Chuttle Schaffhausen Style - try the "Zvieri" - the afternoonplatters with speck, nutsalami and airdried ham can be a real treat. Over 100 regional an some international wine specalities, as well as regional quality draft beer make your stay a memorable one.
We have a quick lunch in this restaurant when our cruise ship arrived Stein am Rhein. The restaurant has both indoor or open sittings while in the latter case, you could have better views on the riverside. The food in general was acceptable with reasonable price but the staff were a bit slow in action as we have to hurry up with our tour elsewhere.

You can see the castle perched on the hill above Stein am Rhein and it's an easy drive to the top where the restaurant is within the old fortifications. The route up passes through vineyards and there's a scenic view point with benches about half way up. The more adventurous can walk the steep stepped slope but it looked pretty arduous to me and you'll definitely be ready for a drink when you reach the summit! I would consider prices to be towards the high end but of course you're paying for the setting and a great one at that. There's plenty of parking just below the entrance with a 20meter or so walk up.

Hotel restaurants are normally not my thing. This one is one of the rare exceptions: Fresh, tasty food, presented in a very appealing way with innovative accents, that never take over - after all, you are here for the food. I was here with a party of 15 business associates and the six course dinner found nothing but praise.

Don't judge the Rheinfels by the entrance from the dark, heavy-timbered interior of the hotel filled with creaking floors, taxidermy, and assorted medieval knickknacks -- the outdoor Terrace is a lovely setting by the river where you can get some surprisingly good food at reasonable (for Switzerland) prices.
We asked for a cheese plate and got a beautifully presented sampling of local cheeses with assorted dried fruit and nuts accompanied by a side of fresh-cut bread (see photo). With a lightly fruity local white wine, it made for a perfect late afternoon snack.
Even though service here wasn't the friendliest, it was perfectly adequate. More importantly, the setting -- right by the river and overlooking a small bridge entering the village -- was lovely and peaceful.
For a change of pace on a nice outdoor Terrace just outside the heavily touristed medieval center of Stein am Rhein, try the Rheinfels -- it's surprisingly good.

Stein am Rhein is a beautiful town and a major draw for hundreds of tourists each day so it wouldn't be surprising to find that the local restaurants would be poor quality as they don't really need to try to hard, so it was a pleasant surprise to find that the La p'tite Creperie certainly bucks the trend and produces delicious crepes.
Quick service, tasty crepes and a lovely small dining area outside. Highly recommended!

Great location -- right in the center of town! In full view of the painted houses and Rathaus. You can people watch, gaze at the houses and rest your feet. Great Waitstaff -- fast and friendly. Great coffee and cold beer. Downside is the lady behind the cake counter (not really a people person -- good thing the gentleman beside her was nice) and the chocolate cake is a bit dry.

Came across this lovely little restaurant when we met up with friends. Good food and excellent, friendly service. We ate early evening wen the restaurant was quiet. Certainly worth a visit if you take the opportunity to visit Stein am Rhein (a really interesting place!)

NIce Restaurant in the middle of the old town of Stein am Rhein. Quite a lot of tables outside. Caffee and Kuchen quite ok. Very busy during summer.

WE decided on the spot for a light meal at the Rheingerbe, because of its location (as opposed to neighboring restaurants, it has an unobstructed view on the Rhine river). We has pan fried fish with salad or steamed potatoes, a porc steak with salad and chicken wings with salad. Everything was very tasty, the wine of decent quality and the prices very reasonable. The service was friendly and efficient.
