This was just happened across by two tired and hungry cyclists. Firstly if you are English do not expect that this will be the same as at home. The dutch palate seems to be a little different to ours and I suspect that as Chinese adapted their recipes to our tastes they also did with the Dutch. The restaurant itself was inspiring, a half pagoda in green and red with beautiful golden dragons. We ate the all you can eat buffet for E16 each. Food was cool but this is generally common throughout Europe we find. Menu was deep fried chicken balls - quite soggy in the middle, banana fritters, a very nice stir fried vegetable medley, plain quite tasteless fried rice, chilli beef, egg foo yung - somewhat overcooked, chilli crackers, fresh fruit, but nothing remarkable. did include a drink or ice-cream to finish off. One of the cheaper meals we had in the Netherlands - reviewed only because you should also review mediocre as well as good or bad. This rates in between poor and average and will do when all you want to do is fill your stomach up.

6 of us from Taiwan and Malaysia stayed in Giethoorn for 4 days. We drove to Steenwijk(about 10 mins)and found Shanghai Wok. The restaurant is big , can accommodate 80-100 people on the ground floor.
The food is so delicious. We like the deep fried spring roll(with a very special sauce),Peking duck, chicken soup &tomato soup, satay........We spend Euro 20 per person(set dinner),and all of us were very satisfied with everything especially the thoughtful act of serving the food on candle-heated plate to keep the food warm .(never seen this before in any Chinese restaurant- see from the photo)Euro20 set dinner include a cup of coffee and we cannot finish the food.
We went back for the 2nd day.
Highly recommended for anyone who like Chinese food. It's worth traveling 5km from Giethoorn to Steenwijk.

I have been coming to Steenwijk since the early seventies. Finding good food has always been a challenge in this part of the Netherlands. In the old days the tiny restaurant " Het Patijntje" was the only l,ace in the area where foodies from the larger cities of the Netherlands could enjoy well prepared culinary creative food. Unfortunately the time comes for every cook to enjoy well deserved retirement, so several years ago this restaurant closed its doors. Since then my family and I tried many restaurants in the area, only to conclude that there was nothing at hand to take its place.
A few weeks ago I checked the Michelin app again and to my surprise I saw that Steenwijk now had a restaurant with a Bib Gourmand. Personally I like these restaurants a lot; compared to star restaurants the atmosphere is often more laid back and relaxed while the kitchen can still be adventurous and relaxed.
We were not disappointed. For the first time in years I thoroughly enjoyed a meal in Steenwijk. It was more than great, every course was spot on. Also the wine was well priced and delicious. In conclusion; they will certainly see us again in The Bovenmeester!

I go here once a year with my family ,it is the only Greek restaurant in town , we usually phone before going there ,especially at the weekend .The atmosphere is great ,you have to wait a little for your order ,the food was excellent ...the restaurant opens at 5 o clock pm

On a little pedestrian place, i was Just here for have a drink but service and place were nice so i decided to try the food! Good idea, it was huge and good! If i have to come in Steenwijk again i will eat here for sure ! Prices are between 15 and 30€ but you have for your money here!

A little last minute on a Sunday and the place was packed with locals - a booking had been made so a table was sorted. So be aware this place is popular. Great feel and a little story about the origin of Woodies on the menus. Staff great, food superb. Want to go again just thinking about it.

Het concept All you can eat is op zich niet verkeerd. Alleen is de kwaliteit hier niet in overeenstemming met het bedrag. Wel voldoende van alles maar daar houdt het wel mee op.

We enjoyed with family a dinner at the theater. Actually we were happily surprised by the quality of the food! Well served. No complaints. Recommended if you need to have a meal just before enjoying a concert or play at the theater!
