La Manouille

Great decor - copper pan used as sink, to lovely touches like old calendars used as menus!
Great wine selection and opted for 2 bottles ( only two of us!) which we wouldn't normally do - but very happy with the choices.
Starters - girlfriend went with snails for the first time ever, which were of good standard having tried myself. I opted for the goat cheese Samosa which again was great.
Mains - she went with filet steak, and running a steakhouse was very happy with everything on plate - especially the dauphinois potatoes!
I had the lamb, which was nice but had a lot of fat in it, not their fault and really couldn't fault the cooking of it at all!
We had desserts ( after waiting 25 mins) - these were amazing too!
We both run restaurants and are booked half board - yet have rebooked to come again this Friday - that tells a story!

La Marotte

What a great find....this was the last evening of our holiday and it was the perfect way to finish off on a high note.
It's so refreshing to find a restaurant where they are genuinely happy to go the extra mile for their clients ..it's very small, and they do 2 sittings at 7.30 or 9pm . All the staff were lovely , friendly , smiling and took the time to throughly explain the menu.. The portions were not large but we're really tasty and completely fresh and home made.
I imagine you have to book in advance but well worth it

La Pastorale

We wanted some cosy "traditional mountain food" after a hard day on the slopes. La Pastorale was completely perfect. Really cosy (a converted sheep barn I think) low curved ceilings with a small number of tables and a great fire. We went in at 19:00 and were the only ones in there - by 19:30 it was full. Our waiter couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and was patient with my slow French. The food was standout perfect for us. It wasn't fancy but just really really well done. We went with the intention of just a main course but ended up having three because the menu and atmosphere were so good. We also enjoyed some local beer. We sat by the fire and enjoyed watching the chef barbecue other diners meat courses on the griddle above it - brilliant. I would seriously recommend this place if you like good honest great tasting food in a cosy friendly place.

L'Araignee

On a small Terrace almost overhanging the white waters of the Guisane river, our shady table was the perfect spot for a long lunch. As usual, OH was having the full 3 course menu du jour with wine while I, now on damage limitation measures, had to content myself with 1 course and a carafe of water. But my trout with almonds was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious garlic mayonnaise and some light, crispy, sliced potatoes. I also got a little pot of over-cooked, chopped courgettes in a creamy sauce which I wasn't too keen on. But this style of cooking vegetables seems to be the norm in many French restaurants nowadays - if you are lucky enough to get vegetables at all. Maybe they just prefer them that way?
Thankfully my main course arrived at the same time as OH's starter - a plate of little sardines & tapenade toasts which he really enjoyed. His steak main course was good too. But really I was most jealous of his dessert (see photo) and did insist on a large spoonful as well as shamelessly running my finger through the caramel generously drizzled on the edges.
I am always happy to drink the local water - it's like Evian on tap - but OH thought the wine was so good that he insisted I try it and asked me to take a snap of it so he could track it down elsewhere. Domaine de Tresbaudon - it was, indeed, very good.
Service was also good and what was really nice was the complimentary Kir we were brought to kick things off. All in all a great lunch. Total cost with coffees was 39.10 euros. We'll definitely be going back for more. And next time I'm having dessert!
......................................................................................................................................................
In fact, we did go back for more and I did have dessert this time! Another lovely lunch. See photos for my crepe starter and OH's starter & main...

The Terrace is so sunny! They have organized shade in an original way. The food is perfect and uses local mountain products, including flowers and plants! I'm vegetarian so not much of a choice but manged to order a couple of good starters. The service is indeed excellent with people that believe in their cuisine and what they are serving. Very good Tariquet white wine. This place is more for an occasion rather than just snack. Short walk from the mid point of
the 'remonte mécanique' of Ratier starting from Chantemerle. Combine this with a walk up top or continue with the lift to the top to see the views.

What a wonderful surprise we had when we found this little gem, after asking our ski instructor Erick on where to eat near our chalet we were highly recommended this wonderful French restaurant. The steak was truly amazing and all the wonderful vegetables that were beautifully presented. The owners were so helpful translating the menu to us and exceptionally kind to our younger guests helping them choose such a wonderful meal. It made our first experience to French cuisine a very memorable and amazing experience. Finally I must say what a beautiful cosy room we had the pleasure of dining in, the ambience was truly wonderful as was the delicious homemade desserts. We will be back !!!!!

Not often I write an opinion on a restaurant / bar but the service we received here was second to none, quite exceptional. Very refreshing to be so welcomed every time by all staff throughout our stay regardless of if we were in our group of 15 with kids (without reservation!) or a couple for a morning coffee.
If you are looking for a lunch spot on the slopes then this is it.
Highly recommend.

Le Triptyque

Having a vegetarian in our party is always difficult in rural France, but Triptyque stepped up to the challenge and produced an interesting, and imaginative veggie plate for my son. (Most restaurants in the area can offer no more than pasta with cheese, which becomes boring after a while). For the meat eaters, Triptyque was excellent, with my lamb shank, and my wife's Duck being well received. Hard to do better in the local area.

Open for lunch and dinner from December 15th at 19:00 to April, 15th 2018. Le Loup Blanc, in a mountain frame... we shall appreciate, on its very sunny Terrace with beautiful sight to mountain or near the cheminey, its sophisticated cuisine and its mountain specialities (delicatessen, cheese, raclettes, tartiflette, fondues...)
