Il Gallo Nero

Certified Italian Fine Dinning Osteria And Wine Enoteca Operated By Headchef Tommaso Franchin And Sommelier Claus Pichner

Reviewed By Luv2travel10471 - Denver, Colorado

This is an exceptionally well-managed restaurant, with great attention to the details. The food is creative and well-prepared. It's a nice combination hub Italian and danish cuisine. The service is impeccable, formal without being stuffy. Klaus, the owner, seems to be everywhere at once, doing whatever he can to make his guests comfortable. The Wine Cellar is impressive. My only suggestion would be to make the menu a bit more extensive. There were few choices for non-meat eaters when we went. Adding some pasta dishes would be nice. Prices are expensive, but I don't know if they are out of line with other similar restaurants in Denmark.

Really good quality food. Easily better than café food that can be found in Helsinge and surrounds. Friendly staff, chefs are happy to take you through the menu items and change anything to taste. Has become a regular restaurant for us. Large playroom downstairs is a hit for kids too!

The restaurant offers a nice and big buffét. Also, you can choose your meat and vegetables and have it stirfried by the cook. Included in the buffét you'll find coffee, tea, icecream, cake and fruit.
Good value for money but we were not over the moon about the standard of the food served.

Spisekrogen Kvickly Restaurant

Reviewed By mwestermann - Gilleleje, Denmark

Spisekrogen is a cafeteria inside the local supermarket Kvickly. It's an excellent spot to hang out and watch the natives. It may be a little hard to find, but just enter thru the supermarket main entrance and turn right.
Being a cafeteria, don't expect Michelin star quality meals here, but if you are on a budget and still want to take the family out, or if you want to taste traditional Danish country faire, Spisekrogen is a reasonable local choice.
Apart from the standard selection of "out of the freezer and into the deep fryer" grease lumps, that, in my humble opinion, are not suitable for human consumption, Spisekrogen also offers a very reasonably priced "eat till you drop" dish of the day. Each day a different dish, and most often traditional Danish dishes.
Most traditional hot Danish dishes include boiled white potatoes, meat and some kind of gravy and the dish of the day at Spisekrogen is no exception. You can experience "Hakkebøf med bløde løg" which is minced beef patties with soft fried onions, gravy and white potatoes. Often served with pickled beetroot and maybe a fried egg on top. You can have "flæstesteg" which is traditional danish roast pork with cracklings, gravy, white potatoes and pickled red cabbage.
On Thursdays they serve "Stegt flæsk med persillesovs" which you will either find revolting or become absolutely addicted to. It is crisp fried slices of pork belly, served with white gravy with parsley and white potatoes accompanied by strong mustard and pickled beetroot. It's a heavy meal and you will most likely fell bloated and greasy all over when you are done, but it tastes divine and you just have to have the fourth full size portion.
Dish of the day is usually below 10 EUR per person and drinks are also reasonably priced. Half a liter of draught beer is 5 EUR, which is VERY reasonable for Denmark.
In our family we most often visit Spisekrogen when we come home after a long day at work and nobody has the energy to cook, has had time to think of dinner, let alone taken something out of the freezer or done any shopping. Then the dish of the day is what saves us from famine.
They both serve lunch and dinner and the menu is the same. Come before 6pm (they close at 7:30pm), and don't expect to reserve a table - You can't and they have plenty of space.
What, despite the lack of service and atmosphere, raises this place from "average" to "very good" is the fact that it is really good value for money and that it is one of the few local places that to "homemade" Danish grub.

We had lunch and dinner here twice and really loved the food. Lunch consisted of five different dishes to share, all light and very tasty indeed. So nice to sit out on the Terrace. Dinner was also really good. Wine expensive though.
