Where to Eat in Grand Baie: The Best Restaurants and Bars

December 9, 2017 Nobuko Falco

With lively restaurants, white-sand beaches, ever-expanding resorts and a natural harbor, Grand Baie is fertile tourist ground. Located on the northwest coast of Mauritius, its fashion and craft shops appeal to landlubbers, while swimming, sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts frolic in the emerald Indian Ocean. Glass-bottom boat trips provide a window on the underwater world, but for a one-of-a-kind experience, board a two-person submarine and cruise beneath the surface with the tropical fish.

Visited Chez ram on holiday, with local Mauritian friends, because we wanted some nice seafood. We werent disappointed. Starter of squid was tender and succulent. Main course of giant prawns was superb. Curried dishes looked good too.
Setting is simple, just on the outskirts of Grand Baie, but service was friendly and prompt.

We had 'today's menu' during lunch time.
Some crispy fries for appetizer, fish in creole sauce with salad and peas for main. And pineapple flambee for dessert. Rs 400 per person.
It was not a big portion, but all the food was very fresh and tasty. It looked like made carefully with love. The waitress was friendly, so I had a pleasant feeling.
I hope to go back again when we are in this area.

Very nice local mauritian food. Very tasty, very well cooked: meat and seafood are perfect. Feels like family cooking at home.
Staff and service very friendly.
Owner really nice to talk to.
Despite its location (main street, not very engaging at night), go there, you will not regret!

Gourmet Grill Mauritius

This is a nice & festive restaurant with lots of character located in the famous Banana Beach Club. The Gourmet Grill is much more than a grill, we feature local seafood and weekly specials. Our menu includes Seafood Risotto, Camarons (Giant fresh water shrimps), Sushi, Lobster, fresh Foie Gras, and tasty vegetarian dishes. For lovers of beef our Steaks, Entrocote and Burgers are legendary made with the best Australian beef. For Deserts you have to try the Fondant or the Banana Nut Flambe, we do have a great homemade NY Cheese cake and French apple tart as well. The musical decor displays the owners passion for music with a collection of memorabilia. A little warning for the light hearted, being part of the Banana it can be a bit noisy and festive later in the evening with live music and an active bar scene. The Banana a lively night spot so do plan to stay on for a memorable night out. Bon Appetite!

I was doing loads of research for holiday meals for Christmas in Mauritius. I contacted who I might think is the owner/ whoever answers their facebook messages and they went above and beyond for me. They weren't open for Christmas, so we booked with them for Xmas Eve and I asked if they would suggest something. They even called the venue for me. We took their excellent suggestion (Labourdonnais) and had a wonderful Xmas day. So kind to go the extra mile.
Now, for our Xmas eve dining experience. The place has very good atmosphere and a good mix (it seems) of locals and tourists. The grill bit is the "restaurant" that blends into and over looks the Banana bar with a bands with very entertaining artists.
A funny and charming gentleman took care of us. We had both had a very delicious meal of the fresh water prawns. We enjoyed it so much we booked for New Years Eve on the spot. Highly recommend and will obviously be going again.
They have parking too which can be a big help as parking around there is a challenge.
Big thank you to everyone who helped make our Xmas holiday in Mauritius great.

Immediately next to La Rougaille Creole, Ti Kouloir is quite a contrast - queues of locals taking away portions of boulettes and noodles with some limited benched Seating for those that want to linger and take in both the atmosphere of a busy eatery and the delights of its offerings. We have a mix of boulettes (Mauritian dumplings) served in a gorgeous thin soup - the lamb and ginger, fish encased in tofu and chicken & shrimp were out favourites - and a shared plate of lightly spiced chicken noodles. Very, very good value and an excellent adventure into authentic local cuisine.

This restaurant is well priced for its location, compared to other restaurants on the front strip of grand baie. We had a delicious veg pizza and marlin panini with a beer and water for around 700 Rupees. The food is fresh and delicious and well presented. This is the perfect place to have breakfast, lunch or eat at sundown on weekends, as it has a beautiful view and is now open on Friday and Saturday nights! The staff are friendly and the service was great! I highly recommend eating at this restaurant, and wish we had found it sooner on our trip!

I have been passing this place for quite some time now and always wanted to try it out. Well, I finally did for a quick lunch and I left as a very happy customer. It's a small place with limited selection but all the foods are prepared with lots of dedication and skill. It's very much delicate home cooking and a nice change from all the other restaurants in the area.... for once i left a restaurant on the island without feeling bloated and full.
Next will try breakfast ....

So partnered to the Pereybere Hotel and Spa this place was new to us. Using local available produce the chef is pushing the boat out. The menu choice is a reasonable size but is generally more expensive that other places in Pereybere. While we enjoyed our meal it didn’t quite meet the expectations based on the price. The host is an outgoing young man who is keen to develop the place bringing in live music on a number of evenings ( which mostly was a bit too loud when sitting eating as a group making it difficult to talk ). Like most of Pereybere however it’s welcoming place where the personal touch goes a long way. We stopped in most days for a drink , a good bar selection after a day by the beach or pool, tho wine list mostly French and definitely over priced. Would certainly suggest more “ local “ lower/ mid priced wine to encourage diners to return. We wish the team very best wishes and hope to see this little business develop and find its place Pereybere
