Dougga is one of the best preserved Roman archaeological sites in North Africa and well worth the 2 or so hours drive out of Tunis. Like most such sites in Tunisia you can pretty much wander where you choose. There's usually an English speaking guide around who for about 10 GBP will give you an interesting if sometimes quirky tour. Dougga is situated in beautiful rolling countryside and there's a laid-back feeling about the place which makes it a good place to have a picnic and to relax. Getting on the right road out of Tunis can be a pain though so it's a good idea to use Sat-Nav.

This is definitely one of the best historic places to visit when in Tunisia and surpasses the other Roman areas in Europe by its size and what is left after almost 1800 years since it was built (it was built around 230 AD)
You will get fantastic photographs (see under photos) and sights from this attraction which is a UNESCO World heritage site
It costs 10 TND (around £3:00 Sterling at the time of this review) but this also includes the cost of the entry to the museum in the town (just a small 10 minute walk away) which is definitely worth a visit - actually a must visit in addition to here
There is a shop for souvenirs here afterwards the security entrance (alike airport security) - both new since our last visit and good toilets in a separate toilet block
Walk below where the lions were kept as well as the slaves and walk to the very top as well - just wander as you please which you can’t do in many world attractions
There are a few shops in El Jem and a few local restaurants but it is not too big apart from that (population around 20,000) - bring a picnic and eat within the site if you like - we did
There is a very good cafe immediately opposite the ticket office that serves fresh orange and the owner speaks excellent English and highly would recommend it there - he has a small barbecue outside that entices people with the cooking of the food and bowls of oranges on the tables
It is Accessible here by public louage or by train so fairly easy to get to from Tunis or Sousse

An amazing place where you absolutely have to go during your vacations in Djerba. You'll discover the island through a lot of faboulous rambles with our horses, ponies and camels. What ever you want we have necessarily activities made for you and we can promise you a lot of incredible memories.

I just can't find the right words to give you the real images of the day that we enjoyed with all the ranch's team ! I strongly recommand this experience even if you're a beginner in horse riding (Just like me !), the instructors will be there to help you and make the experience safe and enjoyable. And it's not expensive at all.
The very friendly staff will take care of you from the beginning of the day till the end, you'll experience the ride through Djerba's most beautifull spots and taste a delicious barbecue on the beach with fresh drinks!!!
So if you're in Djerba or you're planning to go there, do not hesitate and try it!

I was there for about 4,5 hours going through the different floors. It gives you a very good overview over the history of Northern Africa and the different rule that has been there over the years. Very interesting to see how things have changed from the Romans to the Arabs and to modern day Tunisia.

This is a “must see” place in Tunisia. Although the complex is a ruined Berber village there are some activities still going on and some of the houses are still inhabited. There is also one place that is very unique and looks like “out of reality”. There is a small cave with oil press operated by camel. You enter very dark cave and inside the camel turns big stone roller pressing olive oil. The smell and the whole surrounding is absolutely unique.

With its two dominant beautiful blue and white... This beautiful town is twenty minutes drive from the capitol... Offers beautiful scenery... Good shops for some hot beverages... And a walk to remember... Unfortunately some locals are destroying the image of this beautiful place... By giving some hard time to the tourists... Such a shame for such a beautiful place

This was my first visit to a salt lake. It is the largest salt pan of the Sahara Desert with a surface area of 5,000-7,000 km2. During the summer Chott el Djerid is almost entirely dried up and can be crossed by foot or car, but doing so is considered very dangerous as the salt crust can break. Chott el Djerid gained its world recognition when it was used as a filming location in the Star Wars series (here in the picture the Lars Homestead set from Star Wars)

it's a nice place to visit . you get to see the former president bourguiba's remains, his achievments , his clothes , his childhood and his grave , as well as his family's . plus the place is very beautiful with a very nice architecture.

This is a small-medium sized museum located just on the outskirts of the Sousse Medina, accessible via the outside of the Medina (rather than within the walls).
The museum is visually extremely impressive, located in a stunning old Sousse fort. The exhibits focus on just presenting the history of the area. I felt that this was in contrast to some of the history museums you find in the UK, which often focus on bizarre agendas such as focusing undue attention on the lives of what they describe as 'ordinary' people (every an arbitrary concept) or particular ethnic groups.
Lot of very impressive mosaics.
This place is let down by the fact that whilst it advertises that it has a cafe, it does not.
Perhaps it has been closed down for an unknown reason, but it is annoying that you cannot buy refreshments when you visit. There was also no toilet paper in some of the toilets. This could have caught an unwitting visitor in a rather unfortunate position!

The beach was lovely and the weather was on the 40's and my kids loved it on the beach.
The hotel was lovely as well apart from the attitude of all men towards all women.
Would definitely not go again.
The place outside is like war torn zone and Madia old town was good as enjoyed the history.
All the women staff were cleaners and the men worked in the reception and bar area.
Our beds and room was well done on daily basis.
The beach was clean and no hassle from any beach boys.
