Debonairs Pizza

Reviewed By dik-bardon - Worksop, United Kingdom

During a mammoth journey from London to Eshowe in Zululand Izzy and I stopped off in Ermelo at our favourite Pizza outlet twixt Josi and Eshowe... from Josi to Eshowe is about 600km and Ermelo is mid-way. We had flown into O.R. Tambo earlier that day, picked up a hire car and headed off into Africa.
The lovely lady at the counter took our order and said it would be about 20-25 minutes because it was busy; and it was busy, which probably reflects the high quality of their pizzas.
Only one lady seemed to be building the pizzas and the rest of the half a dozen or so staff were taking orders, on the phone or waiting for the pizzas to come through the oven. It took 45 minutes to get our pizza which is a long time for a fast food outlet. There is a saying hereabouts -"The Swiss make the watches but Africa owns the time", and this wait did nothing to disprove that saying.
However, the "Something Meaty double-stack", was worth the wait. This was the longest we have ever had to wait, usually it takes about 15 - 20 minutes. The Pizzas are made to order and the ingredients are lovely.
If you are in a hurry make sure you check how many people are in front of you. Our number was 208 after 15 minutes they produced the pizza for 194 so it took 30 minutes to produce 14 orders - about two orders a minute on top of the 15 minutes for the prep and cook for yours to come out of the oven.
I have rated the service as 2 only because we were not made aware of an accurate waiting time. Had we got this in 15-20 minutes or been told it would take 40-45 minutes an excellent all round would be awarded.

I had a lousy experience here quite some time ago, but decided to try it again. We stopped for breakfast. The service was pretty average and the eggs were served undercooked even though I had requested over easy. After I mentioned this, the eggs were returned having being now overcooked presumably in the microwave. The cappuccino cups were the smallest I've ever seen. The breakfast took about 15-20 mins to be served even though the restaurant was pretty empty. I won't be returning.

Ciao Cafe

I had the absolute pleasure to discover Ciao Café in Ermelo on Thursday, 28 January 2016.
The restaurant is filled with beautiful artwork, large chandeliers and interesting items throughout. The courtyard boasts a very relaxing and romantic ambience.
My waitress, Erica was a real breath of fresh air with her friendly and bubbly personality and she ensured I was comfortable throughout my visit. Wouter was very friendly and made me feel right at home.
The menu itself is a work of art. Think blue cheese and figs on a 250 gram grilled fillet and a chicken breast with bacon, feta, sundried tomato onion and mozzarella. The menu boasts breakfast, pancakes with savoury fillings, salads, toasties, starters and grills. The menu includes a couple of Vegetarian dishes. The menu is also well priced.
I had a Red Cappuccino which was simply the best I ever had. I can also highly recommend the Grenadilla Lemonade. It was very refreshing and served in a large glass.
The restaurant boasts two private dining areas which is ideal for special occasions or, just to celebrate life.
I cannot wait to return to this gem of a restaurant to marvel on the romantic ambience and sample on the mouthwatering menu.

Mugg and Bean

Reviewed By zerwickrenatevictor - Centurion, South Africa

I had the pleasure of having brunch at Mugg & Bean in Ermelo on 24 June 2016. I received a friendly welcome at the door by staff members.
The restaurant is tastefully furnished but had a slight lack of warm ambience.
The menu has a very wide variety to choose from and is reasonably priced. I chose a trio sampler which consisted of crumbed chipotle lemon chicken strips served with a lemon, parsley and black pepper mayo, beef & chorizo frikkadels (meatballs), served with a chilli-pineapple dipping sauce & handmade onion rings. The dipping sauces were a perfect match for the chicken strips as well as the meatballs. The meatballs in particular were extremely tasty. I had a flat white cappuccino which was excellent.
Service from my waitress, Millicen was friendly and she apologized for the delay in the kitchen.
On Monday, 18 July 2016 my husband and I had a cup of filter coffee each at Mug & Bean which was excellent. Leonard our waiter was very friendly and efficient.
We can highly recommend Mug & Bean in Ermelo for a quick cup of coffee and brunch.

Ocean Basket

Reviewed By zerwickrenatevictor - Centurion, South Africa

My husband and I had the pleasure to have lunch at Ocean Basket in Ermelo on Monday, 10 October 2016.
I arrived just before 11:00 (they only open at 11:00) and the friendly waitress told me I can sit down at an outside table and brought me menus. That was such a sweet gesture and I immediately felt at home.
The restaurant boasts inside Seating areas as well as an outside Seating area. The outside Seating area had a charming ambience and was the perfect place to watch the world go by.
The updated food menu and drinks menu was a pleasant surprise. Expect new starters, salads, Mediterrasian sushi, “normal” sushi, prawns, fish, calamari, combos and desserts to name a few. The menu boasts a feast for seafood lovers. The menu is well priced. I had a bottle of Ocean Basket house wine which was excellent and very well priced (had two glasses and took the rest home).
My husband joined me just in time to have lunch. One of the male managers effortlessly took us under his wing which made us feel at home, had a conversation with us and even took our lunch order.
We received complimentary fresh bread rolls with butter which was excellent.
My husband ordered grilled Kingklip with a salad. The salad was crisp and freshly made with high quality ingredients. He enjoyed every bite of his meal.
I ordered 8 queen prawns with potato chips. The queen prawns were firm and very tasty.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Ocean Basket in Ermelo and will most definitely go back on our next visit to Ermelo.
