Das Gasthaus Johanniter (wird gerade von außen renoviert) liegt unmittelbar gegenüber vom Deutschordensschloss im Ortskern von Bad Mergentheim. Inneneinrichtung mit viel Holz, gemütlich und nicht düster. Umfangreiche Speisekarte (deutsche Küche) und saisonale Angebote (z.B. halbe Ente, Kürbisgerichte). Das Essen ist sehr schmackhaft, frisch zubereitet, Beilagen können problemlos geändert werden. Obwohl Feiertag und wir kurzfristig kamen, war das Personal sehr bemüht, einen Tisch für uns zu organisieren. Flinker und freundlicher Service, faires Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Empfehlenswert nach einem Bummel durch die historische Stadt.

Definitely make a reservation before you go! That is the most important tip!
The food was delicious as always, the ambience is amazing especially when the wine grows and carries crops. The waitress are very nice and helpful
The only thing it's time to renew the bathrooms ;-) they are clean but very old.
We will come back

If your looking for a home from home , then you have to stop here. As I dont speak German and only English, you may feel this would be a awkward situation for this location, but no, the staff are amazing and you get the feeling they are there to make your stay the best it can be. Location wise, it is perfect as I have my head office locally and the view of the area is beautiful from most of the hotel. Yes its a bit remote. but that is the area not the hotels fault, but only 5 mins to the town, but the resteraunt food is amazing, so why leave. The only thing that woudl be addtional idea, would be a gym or a pool ! but I am being picky , when you can walk for miles in the countryside ! :)

I loved this restaurant! They have to-go options. The service was quick and the waiters were nice. The food was delicious, too. We had half a rotisserie chicken and a salad. The dressing to the salad was light and flavorful. The chicken was a little too over-seasoned in some places on the skin but otherwise was yummy. The atmosphere was bright, with a lot of windows leading outside. Just a few minutes from the train station, and a few minutes the other direction from the Residenz, Wurzburg.

We went as a result of comments on TA & were not disappointed. There is a good selection of German & Greek food. The meal was well cooked & presented in a very nice surrounding. We were so impressed we went a second night.

I stopped by this city while doing the romantic road and was starving. Looking for a German style restaurant and found this one right in the middle of main square. The food is delicious, not so strong and really tasty.... Delicious options of pies for Deserts as well!!!

Had stopped in Bad Mergentheim whilst driving the Romantic Road, this cafe was in the grounds of the castle, it was the all round floor to ceiling windows that attracted me most. I was at this point travelling alone so it was a lovely place to stop for a hot drink whilst looking out the windows at the lovely castle grounds.

Looked for a dinner restaurant and ended up here. What expected us was the best local cuisine in town. Excellent freshly cooked food with friendly service. 5 Stars for food, quality and service in a traditional atmosphere at normal prices.

Loved the gelato and espresso, but the smoking made the visit terribly uncomfortable, so we had to pick up and leave, finding another less smoke-infiltrated place in the Marketplace to sit. Too bad, because it could have been lovely.

Das alte ehemalige Gasthaus zum Löwen ist seit Generationen in Hand der Familie Rummler und auch heute noch ist es ein Familienbetrieb in bestem Sinne. Zwei Schwestern teilen sich Service, Dekoration, sind guter Geist im Vorder- und im Hintergrund, der Mann einer beiden ist der kreative Chef der Küche.
Im Sommer ist es der schönste Biergarten weit und breit, man sitzt im Schatten alter Kastanien, hübsch dekorierte und gedeckte Tische, Kerzen und Laternen des nachts. Im Winter lockt die warme Gaststube, traditionell eingerichtet, dunkles Holz, eher niedrige Räume, nette Nischen, gemütlich.
In diesem traditionellen Rahmen überrascht die Karte, die im saisonalen Wandel stets Klassiker bietet, oft neu und delikat variiert, wie die Tellersülze mit Bratkartoffeln, mit einer wunderbaren, zart-fruchtig säuerliche Vinaigrette, ein Biergarten-Klassiker am Abend eines heißen Tages. Daneben gibt es aber auch Delikatessen wie gebratene Jakobsmuscheln, feine Fischgerichte mit köstlichen hausgemachten Saucen, immer eine fantasievolle vegetarische Alternative. Alles ist frisch zubereitet, köstlich, bunt, vielfältig und ohne modisches Chi-Chi, knackig und variantenreich die Salate, kein Convenience-Food, nirgends.
Die Bedienung durch die Chefin ist freundlich, stets aufmerksam und präsent, viele Stammgäste werden persönlich begrüßt und kommen offensichtlich gerne immer wieder. Im Sommer und zu Stoßzeiten helfen Mädchen aus, die von der Chefin liebevoll-resolut geführt werden. Zu späterer Stunde kommt nach getaner Arbeit der Chef der Küche zu den Gäste, ein freundliches Wort für alle.
Es gibt eine recht umfangreiche Weinkarte, aber auch mit den saisonal wechselnden Weinempfehlungen ist man stets bestens bedient, preiswert sind sie allemal.
Überhaupt die Preise: Schon an sich ist die Preisgestaltung recht moderat, wenn man dabei auch noch die gebotene Qualität ins Kalkül zieht, so sind diese Preise nur durch einen extremen persönlichen Arbeitseinsatz der Familie erklärbar.
Insgesamt kann man "den Rummler" uneingeschränkt empfehlen, es ist ein Kleinod, weit entfernt von der Einfallslosigkeit und Ödnis, die einem in der Kurstadt sonst auf Schritt und Tritt begegnet. Dabei ist man weder abgehoben noch pseudovornehm, sondern voll alltagsgeeignet, auch für den anspruchsvollen Gast.
