We ate in this restaurant the night before our friends' wedding. The food was very tasty and well presented. The service was excellent with explanations of what we were eating, including the 90 minute cheese served as an amuse bouche.

Bates Restaurant, the award winning restaurant located in the picturesque town of Rathdrum, in the heart of Co Wicklow. The restaurant is popular with locals and tourists for traditional and innovative European cuisine. The menu offers a variety of Steaks from the Char-Grill, Surf and Turf as well as a range of chicken, duck, venison and pork dishes. Seafood is a specialty at Bates Restaurant, with at least six dishes on the menu every day, including famous Chowder, Mussels, Prawns, Scallops, Sardines, Salmon, Hake, Trout and Plaice. The complimentary brown bread served to every customer is freshly baked every day by the Bates team, as is the cherry tomato and olive oil bread. The black olive and sundried tomato tapenades are also homemade, along with the majority of the dessert dishes. As well as offering a wide range of vegetarian, gluten free and healthy options, Bates Restaurant also has an extensive children’s menu.
Best meal of the trip, the staff were great and the food superb, we had steak, seafood, Mussels , all were very good served in a timely manner, and very tasty.
The surroundings are very very traditional and i would recommend this place if in the area!

We had an exemplary dining experience at the Grainstore. Kevin, the chef/owner, was personable and attentive. The ambience was very nice. Food was exceptional--especially the Sri Lankan Curry. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the Wicklow County area ( Rathdrum, Avoca, Aughrim, etc.)

Having watched and loved Ballykissangel, my father, son and I were very excited about eating in Fitzgeralds! On entering we were immediately hit with the stale smell and darkness of the interior, the pub is very tired and in dire need of updating. Myself and my father ordered Turkey and ham, my son ordered lasagne and chips. The food took a long time to arrive and the man who served us never once smiled. Turkey was tough and the ham was completely inedible. Potatoes were lumpy with hard bits. My son did not like the lasagne at all, I tasted it and there was a most peculiar overpowering herb in it. The chips were the only thing I could not fault. It was gourmet food prices for meals that could not be eaten. As we were leaving a tour bus load of people were entering, we pitied them! This is not what a representation of Ireland should be, how sad that they don't maximise on a golden opportunity. If it weren't for the tour buses this pub would close down , I will never eat here again!

Christy's Arklow comprises of a large ground floor lounge, bar & restaurant, with an impressive outdoor Terrace opening out onto the Avoca River.
Christy´s is in Arklows Main Street. In wintertime the surroundings can be rather grey and dreary, but once inside the warm restaurant life gets more colourfull. They do a good selection og pub-grub with beer and wines to match. However, this is not a pub, and if you are looking for pub-food inside a real pub, go elsewhere. But if you simply are hungry and would like to eat decently, this is a place for you. You don`t even have to be Irish.

we stayed with another couple in the arklow bay. as part of the package we had a 2 course dinner included. we would have prefered to eat in the bar as the menu was more extensive.1 of our party dosent eat chicken or fish leaving the only choice being penne pasta. the manageress was quite abrupt in inforning me that we had to eat in the dining room. the pasta looked the same as the spagetti with tomato sause 2 kids were eating at the table next to ours.the main courses arrived 1hour 5mins from ordering and as 1 person didnt have a starter quite a wait. we were offered a glass of wine complemintiary. the food was of a good quality except the pasta. overall not a great experience would reccommend to eat in the bar as we did on 1 nite good service good portions and abetter choice

There's not much to this place, but the food is great. This is the fish and chip shop on the other side of the wall from Hendley's Store. The cook was very nice. We asked her what the locals preferred and she recommended cod and chips. So we ordered them and they were very tasty - some of the best I've ever had. Very large portions.

Myself, my husband and daughter drove over to avoca on sunday last for a drive and decided to stop off for something to eat . on arrival the staff were very warm and friendly. The bar was unusually quite and we were attended to immediately. on sitting down both myself and daughter immediately looked at each other as we both got this pungent smell of must and maybe something else!!!!!! We thought to ourselves just forget about it and order some food. we both ordered tortillas and my husband ordered scampi. Well the tortillas were cold and the scampi was a mixed combo of salmon , cod and whatever other bits of fish were in the freezer!!!! there wasn't one bit of scampi on the plate. I have to say I would have coped with the meal if the smell of the Seating we were on wasn't so vile and nasty. we paid and left and will not return. its such a shame as the setting is beautiful and in summer it is a lovely spot to stop off whilst driving the Wicklow way. its maybe somewhere where one could stop off and have a coffee and Sandwich but as regards ordering food , I would think twice about doing that.... I certainly would not eat there again. my advice to owners would be to steam clean the seats and get rid of that vile smell.......

Take-away Thai and Chinese Food counter on the ground floor with sit-in restaurant served on the first floor.
I ate here with family and friends and we were all let down. The food came out at different times so some were finished before others had started their meals. We were a party of eight so there was a good variety of dishes ordered...MoreWe felt so sorry for your bad experience in our restaurant. Please ring 0402-22202 and speak to the manager, Aggie. We will try our best to work out something for you. Thank you so much for letting us know.

After years of driving by Jack Whites on my way to and from Wexford, we decided to nip in for a fast lunch. I had wondered how it had fared now that the motorway was open a couple of years and it is now effectively off the beaten track.
It is extremely accessible, just at junction 19 of the M11.
Decor and menus definitely need an upgrade. But the restaurant was busy, we were served quickly and warmly, and the food arrived promptly.
We were hungry, and the portions were large. A little light on finesse, it was nevertheless delicious.
I was surprised at how cheap it was; definitely making a point of keeping the prices low. Perhaps that is why some of the other elements were underwhelming.
So, in summary, if you want solid food at a good price, go for it - I will again. Don't however expect haute cuisine....
