Super culture with lots of character, el Baron captures the details right down to the menu - which is a fold out map format listing many of their innovative cocktails. This place is next level mixology, with interesting ingredients and classic techniques. We sit outside to watch the crowds (as the place borders the square) and we order a Domador de Elefantes (gin based with cardamon) and a gin basil smash. Both are great, however the basil is intense and plentiful, so be warned it is almost too much.

We shared an order of beer-battered fish tacos with pickled onion and purple slaw on the roof at Malagana Café. They were delicious but should have consisted of three instead of two for the money. The steep stairs are not for the meek and the view is not great..

Just off the busy main strip of Getsemani is the lovely locally owned cafe/restaurant. We were only in Cartagena for 3 night but ate here twice in the time it was so good. We were walking around the area where our hotel was situated in the early evening looking for food and were attracted to this restaurant by two things: the sign identifying that they served Aberdeen Angus steaks and the fact that local people were already eating there.We went in and asked for a menu, were pleased with the contents and were soon seated by the friendly young waiter (who also spoke some English).My wife went for the Aberdeen Angus based burger with sauces (but no bun - good news) and I had a chicken dish (breast of chicken in a tomato-based sauce. We both opted for French fries. We had beer and white wine to drink and at the end of the meal we were presented with a free portion of creme caramel to share - nice touch.Excellent outcome from a chance encounter and we would certainly recommend.

Our hotel told us this restaurant was not on its list but we came anyway and were certainly not disappointed. In fact it was a great experience overall. The restaurant is modern, extraordinarily well run and the staff are both friendly and efficient. They work very well together in a set up of a long preparation area and tables across. The music, if you like spirited modern, was not live but the best tapes of modern dance music not played too loudly. The menu is very interesting and we had dishes we had never had before. Of special note was the Tiradito, thin slices of fish (or other) and we had octopus, served in lime juice. The Arroz con Mariscos was substantial and well priced. We had them make up a vegetable main dish as there are sides but no vegetable dishes on the menue. The decor was like much of Cartagena modern and tasteful, but this one had a special effect in the hanging canoe and other weavings. Yeison our camarero spoke great English when our Spanish failed. The bar is sufficient though limited in some things. I saw the sushi platters and they looked great. Thumbs up and give it a try.

There may a point in your visit to Cartagena that you grow tired of the claims of âinnovativeâ or strange combinations of fusion food. Youâll admire the pretty renderings on the dessert plate, be delighted at the colors and textures of your entree seconds before you post it to Facebook but deep in your culinary heart youâll wonder whether anyone really knows how to cook in Cartagena..Here they do know how to cook and a very good job they make of it at unreasonably low prices. The service is good and friendly and if you make a booking theyâll be happily waiting for you. Youâll have a good time, be pleasantly fed, but not stuffed and you will be happy with life. Youâll roll that Salmon Tartare around in your mouth trying to identify that flavor on the back, the one that completes it and makes it a wonderful choice.This is cooking. This is a real restaurant.Whatâs not to like? Perhaps the wine list. It has several choices at a reasonable price but none is likely to set the heart racing. The food here would easily justify a rather nice bottle of wine. Before our next visit I must ask if they allow, for a corkage fee, you to bring your own wine.But whatever donât miss out on this place. There are only so many tasting menus the palate can take. Come here and enjoy what makes food so wonderful, great (and often simple old school) cooking.Wow! I am speechless and honored! Thanks so much in the name of the all team of Montmartre. Very small, charming "Taperia" close to the wall and Hotel Charleston. The family run place uses homemade ingredients, daily made fresh. I believe, people that travel, should understand the concept of a Taperia, which are several smaller apetizers, in this palce, usually on a bread. As alternative, they serve real other typical spanish plate, which is Seafood Paella. During my stay in Cartagena, I went 5 times and all tapas were delicious and very reasonably priced, as quality can not be super cheap. Very sympathetic athmosphere created by the owners. I will be back for sure.
