The 2 people running the cafe (husband and wife, maybe?) were arguing when we walked in. That should have told us something about this cafe. But we stuck with it and ordered 2 flat whites and a slice of cake. The coffees were very poor (my wife didn't even finish hers) and the cake was still raw in the middle. Service was also very poor, provably as an aftermath of the argument. We will not be returning. a mischief maker perhaps...excellent coffees, the best cakes anywhere.....never underbaked, and nobody to argue with. Just one chef on her own with very happy customers...with many years of excellent food reviews...all good at Cotti now, I assure you

We have been here in the past and it was great. Unfortunately this time it was terrible... actually it was below terrible (if that is even possible). Should have known as all other restaurants were busy but this one was quiet. Not only had three other customers complained about their food or drink before we got up to pay; but the poor service, where they hardly acknowledge or even offered an apology when told their food was bad made it worse! In fact we were told that’s just the way it is and how they cook it! We got the pork trio - so tough and dry we actually called it a door stop: couldn’t even eat it. Other meals included lamb shanks (only fat) some steak meal and a crusted lamb (not even crusted) and I think medium rare needs to be defined here. Best part of the night - they do know how to cook a carrot For around 35 dollars a main save your money and go anywhere else! Including a few trips to maccas is better

Very good service - nice quiet night and great food. Sirloin steak , prawns, chicken schnitzel, crispy pork belly( truly crispy), fettuccine with prawns and fries with bacon and cheese, 2 sides of cauliflower gratin and seasonal veggies to round things off. All very well cooked. Will come again and hopefully have room for dessert. Great place to go in Petone.

I am Italian, this was our go to place in Welly. In the last couple of years it has gone downhill, the food claims to be Italian but the food is of sub standard and the service is slow, not great with children.Hi Chiara, You came on the 2nd of June to celebrate Italian National Day. La Bella Italia was full of children on that evening. We are renowned for being excellent with children. That night Lilian, one of our best waitresses, attended your table. We get so many compliments from customers regarding her manner with everyone, especially with children. You came in around 5.30pm and left at 7.15pm. We had 140 people booked plus walk in customers. In the last two years La Bella Italia has received a number of awards for the authenticity of the food and the experience we offer. When the staff who was on that night read your review, they were quite saddened as they remembered you fondly - how you greeted them at arrival and leaving. At the till you were asked if everything was okay and you did not say anything to the contrary. To finish: You are Italian, we are Italians too and we work hard everyday to offer a true Italian experience to everyone who walks through our door. We are very proud of the authenticity La Bella Italia is known for.

Awesome cafe and what a great place to meet for lunch. If coming from Wellington it is only a 20 min train ride to Petone.Set on the esplanade with fantastic views of Wellington and inside the setting is like a seaside arcade. There are booths which provide intimacy or you can be seated at tables. They offer tantalising cabinet food and menu food. This cafe is always buzzing and the staff are friendly and the coffee is excellent. The decor is set out like an arcade With memorabilia. The weekends are busy so you need to get in early as the breakfasts are legend. So instead of having lunch in Wellington, take the train you won’t regret it.
