Six of us for brunch on a bustling August long weekend and the food was terrific and the service even better. Not a dud plate which included eggs benny, Portuguese soup, moulds et frites, smoked salmon , veggie burger and outstanding coffee. The place was full with a lineup to get in but the service and turn around in the kitchen was exemplary. Lovely patio overlooking the Gatineau river.Prices very reasonable.

Good drinks. Good food. Pretty good times. The locals' pub, serving Comfort Food 11-9 everyday, with live music at least 4 nights a week.
My friends and I have been getting together at the 1870 for lunch for years now. The food is always tasty and the beer is always cold. The same gentleman has been serving us in all this time, and he's always been pleasant and helpful. They do have live music in the evenings, but I'm only there for lunch. His name is Tom, too. :)Thank you for taking the time to review us.

There were three in our party. We enjoyed the nachos and chicken wings. They have a nice selection of beers from local and international breweries. The view from the patio (mostly shaded by mid-afternoon) is delightful with vistas up and down the Gatineau River. A great way to end our day in Wakefield. The servers are bilingual, friendly and attentive.

Being totally relaxed in the beautiful little village of Wakefield made it hard to make a decision as to what to have for lunch. The four of us stopped in front of a pub on the waterfront, and since the fellows wanted a beer, and the girls wanted a patio, in we went. It was an unusual arrangement in that the pub side served the alcohol and the restaurant side the entrees, with two separate bills, but this did not diminish the quality of food that was served. I am told the pulled pork poutine was amazing, and the chicken chef's salad that I had was very tasty, too. The vegetables were chopped very finely, as was the chicken, and the mustard dressing was just right. The view from the patio of the Gatineau River was beautiful. This is not a fancy place, but very nice for a quick lunch.

A bit of a rowdy hole some nights, but patrons love music, so it's usually civilized. It is the renowned spot in the area for some great return acts, so avid patrons keep on their email list.
