Skibbereen (/ˌskɪ.bəˈriːn/; Irish: An Sciobairín), is a town in County Cork, Ireland. It is located on the N71 national secondary road. The name "Skibbereen" (sometimes shortened to "Skibb") means "little boat harbour". The River Ilen runs through the town; it reaches the sea about 12 kilometers away, at the seaside village of Baltimore. As of the Census of Ireland 2011, the population of the town (not including the rural hinterland) was 2,568. Skibbereen is in the Cork South–West (Dáil Éireann) constituency, which has five seats.

The Kennedy Restaurant, situated in the West Cork Hotel, is the first address for eating out in Skibbereen; no wonder, it's a very elegant place, and the food really is first class. Some dishes may be a bit expensive, but you can also get something cheaper, like chicken wings or a nourishing fish soup. What a disaster! Three different meals which none of ate. This restaurant has absolutely no interest whatsoever in their customers. Two safe, a Male who spent his time on his phone and a foreign waitress who told me she'd ask the kitchen regarding a query I had but she never came back to me. The food was disgusting, cold veg, inedible chicken, unwashed potatoes with the skin left on them. Between the three of us, who had all ordered different dishes, not one of us could eat our meal. Shame on the chef, even if the meals had been free I'd still feel robbed. Avoid and head to the chopper, youll get miles better food!

Busy pub hidden off the main street. Food was reasonable and they do a take away service. Eat here once and had a takeaway as well. Huge portions in the take away!!
