Aktau (Kazakh: Ақтау, Aqtaý) is a city in Kazakhstan, located on the east bank of the Caspian Sea. Its current name means "white mountain" in Kazakh, which may be due to its cliffs that overlook the Caspian. From 1964 to 1991 city was known as Shevchenko (Russian: Шевченко, Kazakh: S'evc'enko). Its former name was given due to the eponymous Ukrainian poet's period of exile in the area. It is located on the Mangyshlak Peninsula and is the capital of Mangystau Region.

Lido is a nice place. I was there twice, first time just stopping for a beer when sightseeing, another in the evening for a dinner with a group of fellow travellers. Both times a good experience. It is an open terrace, breezy, with a view to the Caspian Sea, very pleasant. No English menu, but some English spoken staff. Good service. For dinner, which we had in a group of ca 10 persons, we ordered local grilled meats and salads with Georgian wine and cold beer â everything was very good. Please be aware that on weekend nights there may be parties or discos with loud music etc. I really liked it.

The first thing you notice is the decor - it's very trendy - industrical chic with great lights and comfortable seating. The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. We've turned up and despite most tables being booked they have managed to find a table for us. Customer relations are fantastic. The service doesn't change even when the restaurant is full.The food is always very good and we've tried lots of things from the menu including steaks, burgers, fish, chashashuli, chachapuri, pizzas, potato pancakes, salads etc. The desserts are good particularly the chocolate fondant. It is priced slightly higher than most places but it's a small price to pay when you are assured of beautiful surroundings. The toilets are also very modern and clean.Great place to take people when entertaining or to go to as a group. At the weekend they have entertainment which has always been good.Only slight downside is that sometimes they don't have the wines on the menu - and they are a bit pricy too (compared to what other restaurants charge).

Nice place and probably the best meat in town - you can find a large variety and the staff is nice and helpful. Only negative point is the service, not too organize and slow - we always go there as a group and between the first person get its food and the last one it could pass 20-30 min.Enjoy.
