Where to eat American food in Montego Bay: The Best Restaurants and Bars

June 14, 2020 Misti Hsu

Find out what American restaurants to try in Montego Bay. While this Jamaican spring break favorite is great for party animals, it can also be surprisingly low key – if you want. Montego Bay has excellent duty-free shopping, vibrant nightlife, and calm waters. Browse the local handicrafts at the open-air Harbour Street market, or the "hip strip" shops of Gloucester Avenue. The underwater crevices of Widowmaker’s Cave offer an intricate diving experience. Float serenely down the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft and let your troubles melt away under the sun.

We walked in at around 3pm and it was club music blaring, we could barely hear the hostess at all. The waitress proceeded to seat us and we asked if there was anywhere a little more quiet that we could be seated so she walked us to the further end of the restaurant...still really loud. We were here to have a family dinner and hangout on their water playground. The service was ok and the food was better than other Margaritaville restaurants we've been at so that was good. We went upstairs to get on the slide and the whole section upstairs had people dining in a mich quieter atmosphere. Ultimately we were annoyed that we had to sit at a table for dinner with loud club music where we could barely hear each other talk when there was an alternative option, I mean the waitress Rose I believe her name was could see that it wasn't our scene and that we were a bit annoyed. The upstairs had actual Jimmy Buffett music playing and it wasn't obnoxiously loud, it would've been a much better dining experience. This really could've been a great experience instead of a just OK one.

As far as beaches go it is beautiful white sand and blue waters. But it has its entrance fee and chair fee and umbrella fee and everything else $$. Dont bother bringing frisbee or balls because you arent allowed to play anything on the beach. I guess it USED TO have vball but then the massive new hotel took that away..

This HR boasts its own pool and is on the beach. In fact on their website they encourage you to “hit the beach” - we tried to hit the empty beach whilst having lunch at HR and the security guard from the hotel next door told us to get off the empty beach as it doesn’t belong to HR! So not sure which beach HR wanted us to hit or why they have steps down to it??I visit HR cafes world wide and collect the hurricane glasses every time I visit with the name of the location written on the glass. It states on the menu for $8 more keep your glass, I was told there were no longer hurricane glasses to purchase at Montego Bay. They then served out cocktails in the hurricane glasses?! I asked if we could buy those glasses, I was advised the manager would be asked. The manager never came to see us to answer and the waitress never explained why we couldn’t buy them. Extremely disappointed. We specifically caught a taxi from our all inclusive hotel in Trelawny at a cost of $120 to make our usual holiday visit to HR and buy my glasses for my collection. The food was okay, the place was dead, no atmosphere, not the worst HR I have ever been to (Paris still holds that title) but my disappointing visit has left me thinking I will not bother with HR anymore. Shame really as I have spent years travelling out of my way on holiday to keep the tradition up.Dear Helenkas2014Thank you for taking the time to review your visit. We do, as you mention, advertise our beach which runs from the outlined property of Secrets to the outlined property of Sunscape resorts, each of these hotels are on one side of our beach. On our pictures on our website you can see our beach which depending on the day may or may not be full. Our beach is available to use by any guest & for this, at the entrance of our property, there is a stand with our staff members who can provide you with beach & pool access bands as well as chairs or umbrellas. We apologize for the confusion it must have been & we will address it with the neighbouring hotels so they can accurately relay this information to all guests. As far as your Hurricane, we apologize for selling through them, they are a highly sought after collective & being able to bring it on island is unfortunately taking longer than we expected due to some unforeseen circumstances, while we still have the other styles of glassware we understand some guests will want that particular one as in your case, I will ask you to please contact us directly at our email address on our website & we will be more than happy to assist to get you the glassware of your collection as soon as it arrives. Again thank you for your time & we look forward to seeing you again. Kind regards.
