Southside Park

Was in Woodstock, Ontario on business today and had a few hours in down time to relax here. Drove around this large well kept park which had lots to do plus offer the residents of the area. Parked my car and enjoyed the peace and quiet. No one bothered me and can see from the other reviews why this park is popular!

One of a Kind Antique Mall

We were camping in the area and looking for something to do on a rainy dreary day. We arrived one hour before closing time and barely touched the second floor. Lots to see and if you are a collector, this is definitely a must.

The service and atmosphere were alright. Pros: 10 different beers. Dead reckoning APA, Timberbeast brown ale and Come to the dark side are good options. They offer a cheese / charcuterie board Cons: They don't fill growlers from other Breweries

Woodstock Art Gallery

Reviewed By shariball - Woodstock

It feels like a big City Gallery but with a small town intimate, personal experience. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Wonderful, interesting and diverse showings. With a beautiful perminant collection by Florance Carlyle. An original local artist from the 1800's.
Plus the gift shop is a must for those unique " finds" everyone loves to discover!
Right across the street is the Museum Square, so you can check out the museum at the same time. If there's time, you can also go around the block and visit the Woodstock Public Library. An Andrew Carnegie building with a lot of character!

Springbank Snow Countess Monument

Reviewed By weissp - Woodstock, Canada

It is situated at the corner of Dundas and Sprinbank. I drive by it daily. Not much to see but there is a small parking area to get out and walk up to the cow which is situated on a stone monument. There is full explanation below it. You can sit and enjoy it with park benches and plants around.
During the winter for Christmas local companies have winter light displays which is great to see at night.

Woodstock Museum National Historic Site

The exhibits are worth checking out. I found the experience very informative. The staff were helpful. They answered questions and talked in a kid-friendly manner for our three children. The visit inspired our kids to return later with an artifact they discovered in our backyard - an old surveyors spike, which they donated to the museum.

Pittock Conservation Area

Reviewed By Shautre - London

We arrived at our site on Thursday evening of the long weekend and stayed through to Labour Day Monday.
Pittock has done an excellent job of hiring friendly and informative staff. Every staff member was approachable and took the time to have a conversation with their guests.
Our site - #330 in Section 3 was the perfect site for us. We were a party of 3, 2 tents and 2 dogs. Our site was a corner site. If you are looking for privacy, this would not be the site for you. However, we were there with friends on a couple other site. Given the space and openness of our site it was perfect for games in the afternoon and evening gatherings around the fire.
If I were to go back with another couple, I would reserve the corner sites across from us on the water. Perfect for privacy and access to a couple little fishing spots.
This conservation area is quite large and very spread out. Bring bikes or scooters for the kids to get around to the Playgrounds and pool.
Great place to bring your fur friends! Keep them leashed at all times and be sure to clean up after them. If they don't do well with other dogs or tend to be yappy, this is not the place for them. Approximately 90% of the people that stay here, both seasonal as well as guests, bring their dogs. We were lucky that despite all the fur friends it was a rather quiet weekend.
We walked the dogs every day throughout the park. If you plan to visit the off leash section of the park, you want to consider driving out. This part of the conservation area is at the far end by the damn, away from all camping sections. From section 3 and back it was a 7Km walk. In the cooler weather this would be a great walk, in the heat, with black dogs, not so great.
Swimming - highly recommend use of the pool over the lake. The pool is a bit on the chilly side but there is a full time lifeguard and it's clean. The lake, although nice to look at, is not recommended for swimming or eating the fish. The water is tested weekly for bacteria levels. Although recently cleared for E.coli, there was still a very high and dangerous level of blue/green algae. There are a good deal of fish in the lake. Good for catch and release but not recommended to eat.
This place has some excellent rental and share programs in place. Canoe rentals for the entire day are only $35 (life jackets, kit, and paddles included). They also have a "Tackle Share" program available. This program allows people access to a small tackle box and fishing pole for the day - free of charge! Great idea!
Over the long weekend they did a great job of keeping both kids and adults engaged in activities. On the Saturday, they had folks come in with some animals found in around Southwestern Ontario. Kids were able to volunteer and be up close with the critters. Some animals that made appearances were: porcupine, opossum, skunk, rat snake, Turkey vulture and a morning dove. The kids loved it!
Annually, in labour day weekend, the conservation area hosts Hallowe'en trick or treating for the kids on the Sunday. We through together some costumes and the kids had a great time.
Sunday evening there was a country band playing. Dancing and concession stand were present at the concert.
Overall a good weekend of camping not far from home.
