What to do and see in Waterfront Communities-The Island, Canada: The Best Specialty Museums

August 19, 2021 Florencio Paulino

We've heard Toronto described as "New York City run by the Swiss," and it's true—you can find world-class theater, shopping and restaurants here, but the sidewalks are clean and the people are friendly. The best place to start is literally at the top—the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere.

Toronto Railway Museum

The Toronto Railway Museum is dedicated to preserving the physical legacy, history and experience of rail transportation in Toronto and Ontario. The museum encompasses Roundhouse Park with Stall 17 as the temporary home of the railway simulator and small artifact display. Don Station houses our gift shop and ticket sales for our Miniature Train ride. Explore the grounds to find our interpretive plaques!

This railway museum doesn't look like much because it is so small, but I gave it 5 stars because my grandsons absolutely loved it and wanted to go back the next day. They have a simulator there that you can try to drive a train by yourself. Both my grandsons really enjoyed that. Lots to read about the Canadian Railway in the exhibits, also. Highly recommended if your child is a train lover!

Roundhouse Park

Fun to see trains and round house and kids enjoying it all. Can not go inside the cars, but it is free and you can climb onto the cars and engines. Also it is FREE so no need to pay for a tour. Did not do the indoor museum, but did walk through some of the old round house bays from the whistle stop pub.

We took a group of students there for the tour and presentation and everybody loved it. The curator presented the information with much passion and knowledge. Everyone came away having learned something new.
