Hai Van Pass

The drive from Da Nang to Hue.

Reviewed By christinekT9467ZN

Amazing views on the drive around the hai van pass and spectacular views from the designated look out point by the brick tower but, be very careful here. Our guide told us to buy something from the woman who owns the toilet if you use her facilities. I bought a snack for 30000 Vietnam dong. As I was looking for cash in my wallet, she grabbed a 500000 dong note and said that was 50000 then gave me change for 50000. She did the same thing to someone else in our group. She is a very bad person so avoid her toilet and use the one further down the road.

Not cheap, but worth it. Great fun and an easy, hassle free way to see some of the countryside. My guide/rider was really helpful, and the price included lovely cold towels and water to refresh with. Definitely recommend.

Hai Van Pass

Reviewed By LuizDutraNeto - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Riding through "Hài Vân Pass" and its winding roads, sudden curves and blind corners can be quite a thrill! On National Route 1, the 21 km long mountain pass crosses over the Truong Son Range and juts into South China Sea, overlooking Son Tra Island. It used be the border, during centuries, between the ancient kingdoms of "Dai Viêt" and "Champa". At the top of "Hài Vân Pass", Emperor Minh Mang built, in the 19th century, an outstanding brick gate, which is surrounded by scattered bunkers dating from the first Indochina War (or the French War, as called by the Vietnamese). These bunkers were later used by the American forces during the Vietnam War (or the American War). A quick stop, a few pictures and back to this thrilling road through awesome "Hài Vân Pass"! Enjoy!

Tram Ton Pass

Most people concentrate on the rice terraces and the valley. Take a Day (or at least 6hrs) to ride a scooter over Tram Ton. Well worth the effort.
