Treviso (Italian pronunciation: [treˈviːzo] ( listen), Venetian: Trevixo) is a city and comune in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It is the capital of the province of Treviso and the municipality has 84,669 inhabitants (as of September 2017): some 3,000 live within the Venetian walls (le Mura) or in the historical and monumental center, some 80,000 live in the urban center proper while the city hinterland has a population of approximately 170,000. Lot more shops than we expected! High end and individual boutiques. Yes there are small narrow streets and plenty of historic buildings, but overall a shopping centre, although evening works were great looking for quiet bars! Still very Italian and not touristy.

Treviso is a colorful medieval town. It is a mixture of history, buildings and water. Rivers and creeks, canals and passages are a special pattern and you can look to the water from covered sidewalks. Before the Christmas they decorate some canals with golden stars – interesting during the day and night. Visitors expect to have opportunity to row around but level of water is usually too high to pass under some buildings or even Bridges.

The interior of this Church contains a fairly large number of ancient frescoes including a gigantic on of a saint with a smallish head and enormous feet. The place is closed at lunch so watch out for the proper time to get in.

Strolling along the River I was impressed with the compactness of the water flowing form a compact body, dense in the fluidity that produces a dull sound. This has led me to imagine that feeling could generate those Italians of every where on this strip of land fought in the Italian Risorgimento and in World War I. Cold and dull roar of water that I had met always very lively and joyful. Creates sorrow. But at the same time observe the architectural expertise that took the constructors of the palaces in Taming the River, vital Earth goddess vase, arouses admiration and confirms that the Veneti are people of talent and tenacity to tame the forces of nature.

Spend our evening walking in the piazza dei signori heart of Treviso is something awesome to do. Special town with little medieval style, clean, plenty shops and bars around. And my favorite is having warm roasting chestnuts, one of the street foods available there, in autumn.

We went at about 11am on Saturday. There were about five stalls selling fish. It's just a local fish market and has an interesting 'island' setting with canals all around it. If you want to buy fish, then it's worth going in, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

This museum currently hosts an extensive well presented exhibition on the Dutch artist Escher. It also has a small permanent collection. The place is well organized and modern. You can also visit the old Church of Santa Caterina and it's interesting frescoes
