What to do and see in Tigre, Central Argentina: The Best Historical & Heritage Tours

September 15, 2021 Viva Honore

Day-trip distance from Buenos Aires, the Tigre River Delta offers porteños (Buenos Aires residents) and tourists alike a playground for everything from horseback riding and hiking to fishing and swimming. Comprised of hundreds of tiny islands, the Tigre is about 20 miles northeast of Buenos Aires and is reachable from the city by trains, then by boat from the train station. While the main attraction here is the delta itself (formed where five rivers come together), you’ll also find a Naval Museum, restaurants and playgrounds for kids. Several tour companies offer day-trip excursions to the Tigre River Delta—but visitors also can book stays in area bed & breakfasts and adventure lodges.

Back in January I traveled with my family to Buenos Aires, we hired Argentina Elite Transfers and tours, based on the reviews and the good prices, we were pleasantly surprised with the driver, Patrice, fluent in 3 languages and very professional. The car was spotless, with refrigerator available for drinks. We did call him again during the stay to move around the city, we felt safe the whole time. We are planning to come back when things go back to normal, he recommended the Delta tour so that is on our bucket list!

Three weeks home, we are still in awe of our incredible holiday in beautiful Argentina and that is a result of the exceptional hard work, dedication and passion of Loli Delger and her incredible guides/staff she has partnered with all over Argentina. She single handedly crafted a unique, interesting and most thoughtful trip for our family. From culture/history in Buenos Aires, to trekking and hiking in El Calafate, to paddle boarding, hiking, biking in Bariloche and finally to wine tasting and cooking in Mendoza. Each day was filled with so much interest with every unimaginable detail incorporated. Loli is very well respected in each place we visited so the service we received throughout the different regions were equally superior. I would only recommend Loli as her expertise, commitment and great personality is to be highly commended. Argentina now holds a very special place. We met so many wonderful people throughout working and assisting our days. It is the personal stories told by the people we met that will be memorable always. Thank you so much, Loli for making our trip magical.

I Do not recommend this company I did a pre-planned day trip of Argentina. It was arranged they pick me up from nearby hotel. I msg to confirm and they changed the plans and I had to meet there which wasn’t Easy to find. I attempted many times to contact them via the phone numbers they provided and concierge also attempted, but they never responded. Then I only got half the tour. Try other more reliable and reputable companies.

We booked this one day tour in Buenos Aires with Cultura Cercana during a cruise. My wife and I have visited well over 100 countries and have hired private guides all over the world. We learned long ago that with private tours you get what you pay for and have used Cultura in a number of Argentina, Uruguay and Chilean cities and they never disappointed us with the guides they provide. Our guide in Buenos Aires was one of the best guides we’ve every had anywhere. His name was Rosty (Rostyslav Shkiro). His English was perfect, his cultural and historical knowledge of Buenos Aires was exceptional (he has 3 Masters Degrees) and his personality infectious. Rosty toured with us and a driver was also included because it is difficult to park near many of the sites in BA. Rosty also took us to a great local neighborhood restaurant for lunch (not included in the fee). When you book you will probably be dealing with Sofia at Cultura and she is tremendous. She was on top of everything, answered communications rapidly and gave us great advice about wonderful restaurants in BA.

Not worth it, I'm afraid. Too expensive to get to see just one of the glaciers, the Spegazzini one. (The Upsala glacier can only be seen from afar, as it's deemed too risky to approach). The journey was too long and quite uncomfortable (the ferry I took was the Quo Vadis). Too many people travelling. The ferry was 80% full in Covid times, which I found unsensible and irresponsible. We could not choose where to sit or change seats afterwards. The Spegazzini refuge is partly open. You can take a (rather short) walk in the woods, but the café/restaurant/toilet area is (still) closed and looks quite derelict. I've taken other tours in the area (Perito Moreno Glacier/ Canal Beagle/Full day at Chalten) and they were less expensive, better organised and far more enjoyable than this one.

Contact person at airport as arranged, but there was no driver. And still no driver. We waited about an hour. Finally a driver. We paid to be picked up, not hang around the airport after a 12 hour flight. If this how they do business, find an alternative.
